Mysuru, Dec 4: Even though the local unit of Bharatiya Janata Party withdrew its Hunsur bandh call on Monday a day after Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha was arrested for violation of prohibitory orders, a protest meet was held under the leadership of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje at Gandhi Chowk in the city.

Tension prevailed in the town as violence was witnessed during the celebration of Hanuma Jayanti on Sunday. MP Prathap Simha had been arrested and released on Sunday. However, a group of BJP workers, led Karandlaje staged a protest, condemning the MP’s arrest and state government's decision to impose restrictions on the celebration of Hanuma Jayanti.

The agitating BJP workers said that the state government is imposing restrictions on celebrating Hindu religious functions. The Congress government has hurt the sentiments of the Hindus by not allowing the celebrations of Hanuma Jayanti, they alleged. The protesters expressed their anguish by raising slogans against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

On Sunday, the police took Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha into custody, when he tried to enter the town by driving his car into the barricades at Bilikere near Hunsur in Mysuru district.

Earlier in the day, violence erupted in the town in connection with the procession organised by Hindutva organisations to mark Hanuma Jayanti. The police resorted to mild lathi charge to bring the situation under control. The procession was cancelled due to the violence.

Trouble started when the saffron activists started threatening the police to remove barricades and allow them to carry out procession in the prohibited area. As Eid Milad was celebrated on Saturday, the police had identified a specific route for the Hanuma Jayanti procession.

According to the police, the taluk administration had given permission to take out a procession from the Hanuman temple to the Hunsur municipal office. But the organisers decided to take the procession towards Ranganath Layout and also did not begin it on time. So,the police denied permission to take out the procession.

Angered by this, the saffron activists held a protest in front of the Hanuman temple. The organisers changed the route on Sunday morning. The district administration had clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in the town from Saturday, except on the identified procession route.

In the meantime, Simha was on his way from Mysuru to Hunsur. The police stopped him near Bilikere on the Mysuru-Hunsur Road, asking him not to head further due to the tense situation. But Simha did not listen to the police. He took the driver's seat of his official vehicle, hit the barricades and headed towards Hunsur.

However, the police stopped him from entering Hunsur town and took him into custody. The Bilikere police booked Simha under various sections of the IPC for obstructing policemen from performing their duty, and rash and negligent driving. About 300 others were also taken into custody.

Bengaluru, Jul 16: Former union minister and Senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily on Wednesday said that if at all there is a political future for Sachin Pilot it is in the Congress party.

While speaking to news agency, Moily said Sachin Pilot achieved everything by being in Congress party.

"Sachin Pilot became MP, union minister in UPA-II, PCC president in Rajasthan and Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Whatever grievances you have, it needs to be resolved within the forum of the party. There is no hurry for Sachin Pilot. If at all there is a future for him it is in the Congress party. He has to realise that. He says he won't join BJP, it is good," Moily said.

The former Union Minister Moily further said that Pilot could not become Chief Minister as in Congress, the high command sends an observer and opinion of MLAs is ascertained, be it in Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan.

"The leader who enjoys the support of elected MLAs is made Chief Minister," Moily said.
On July 14, Congress party had sacked Sachin Pilot from the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan and also from PCC president.

The Rajasthan Congress is in turmoil over the past few days. State Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has blamed the BJP for attempting to destabilise the state government by poaching MLAs. The Congress government in the state is facing a political crisis after simmering differences between Pilot and Ashok Gehlot came out in the open.

A controversy broke out in Rajasthan after Special Operation Group (SOG) sent a notice to Pilot to record his statement in the case registered by SOG in the alleged poaching of Congress MLAs in the state.

Bengaluru, Jan 17: Karnataka Health Minister and BJP leader B Sriramulu on Friday claimed that Congress supports Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Popular Front of India (PFI) to disturb peace in the state.

His statement came after the arrest of 6 SDPI supporters in connection with an attack on a BJP-RSS follower during a pro-CAA rally held in December last year.

"The Congress party 100 per cent supports SDPI and PFI. Whenever they do not get the power, they try to disturb the peace with the support of SDPI and PFI. I will propose in Karnataka Assembly session to ban these organisations in Karnataka. We will discuss this matter," Sriramulu told ANI.

"We had already demanded for the ban on these organisations in Karnataka when I was an MP. Shobha Karandlaje, Yediyurappa and I had met Rajnath Singh, the then Home Minister in Delhi and we had given a memorandum to ban SDPI and PFI," he added.

A case has been registered against arrested SDPI supporters under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Bengaluru Police is constituting a new Special Investigation Team (SIT) to handle this case.

"There were 6 people belonging to SDPI, who were here to carry out attacks on leaders supporting CAA. These people were being paid Rs 10,000 from their handlers to create ruckus here. Now this will be handled by the Anti-Terror unit," said Bhaskar Rao, Bengaluru Commissioner of Police.

Earlier today, Karnataka Minister Jagadish Shettar called for a ban on SDPI.

"SDPI always denies their involvement but it has been proved now. I welcome the police's action. Their organisation should be banned as they have always been involved in anti-social activities and government of India should take very serious note of this," Shettar told ANI here.
