Should've done it long back: Sonakshi backs father’s decision to quit BJP

New Delhi, Mar 30: Sonakshi Sinha, a prominent Bollywood actress and daughter of Shatrughan Sinha, who recently quit the BJP to join the Congress, has accused the saffron party of not respecting her father and other senior members, including LK Advani. Speaking to news agency ANI, Sonakshi said that he (Shatrughan Sinha) was little late and that he should have resigned long back.

“Being a party member from the beginning, from the time of JP Narayan ji, Atal ji, and Advani ji, my father has a lot of respect within the party, but I feel the entire group hasn't been given the respect they deserve. I think he has done it a bit too late, should've done it long back,” the actress said.

Sonakshi said that what her father did was his choice and backed her decision, saying, "I think if you're not happy somewhere you must bring a change and that is what he did.”

She also expressed hopes that her father would be able to do more good work in Congress and won’t feel suppressed. “I hope in this new association with Congress, he'll be able to do more good work and not feel suppressed,” she added.

Shatrughan Sinha had on Thursday announced that he will quit the BJP and joined the Congress party in the auspicious period of Navratri that begins on April 6. Sinha, a sitting MP from the Patna Sahib in Bihar, has been a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah. He announced the “painful” decision after the BJP fielded Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad from the constituency he has been representing for the decades.

Associated with the BJP since the 1990s, Sinha fell out with the party's leadership in the recent past, complaining it has become a "one-man show and two-man army"-- a reference apparently to the duo of Modi and Shah.

Sinha, a champion of democracy and freedom of speech, has repeatedly asserted that he would seek re-election from the Patna Sahib constituency even if it could be as a candidate of a different party. The actor-turned-politician has served as a minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and is serving his consecutive term as an MP from Patna Sahib.

Kerala BJP slams CM Vijayan for not attending PM's video conference on COVID-19

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 27: BJP's Kerala state President K Surendran on Monday said it is 'highly irresponsible' of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to not attend PM's video conference with all chief ministers on prevailing COVID-19 situation earlier today.

"The Kerala Chief Minister not attending the important conference regarding a pandemic in the country is not good for the state," Surendran said.

The BJP state President believes Vijayan has sent a wrong message by not attending the conference.

"It is the irresponsible behavior of the Chief Minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that team India is fighting this pandemic together. By not attending the meeting, the Kerala CM has sent a wrong message, " he added.

Surendran said that the meeting was of high priority as PM was meeting the state CM's regarding the important decision of lockdown in the country.

"From the last meeting, many things have changed. Other chief ministers who did not get a chance to speak, participated in the meeting. But Kerala CM chose not to attend the meeting and BJP condemns it, " he said.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had not participated in the PM's video conference held earlier today and instead Kerala Chief Secretary Tom Jose represented the state in the meet.

According to sources, Kerala has given its suggestions in writing.

This was the fourth such interaction of the Prime Minister with the Chief Ministers, the earlier ones had been held on March 20, April 2, and April 11.

PM Modi in the meeting said the lockdown has yielded positive results as the country has managed to save thousands of lives in the past one and a half months.

Justin Bieber postpones all 2020 concerts due to COVID-19

New Delhi, Apr 2: Singer-songwriter Justin Bieber on Thursday announced that he is postponing all of his scheduled 2020 concerts for his 'Changes Tour' due to the global outbreak of coronavirus.

The singer took to Instagram and posted a statement on the platform to make an announcement in the regard.

"In light of the current public health crisis. And with the deepest concern for all those being affected. Justin Bieber will be postponing all currently scheduled 2020 dates for the changes tour," read a statement.

"While Justin -along with his band. Dancers and crew - has been hard at work preparing an amazing show. He has always put the health and well-being of his fans first and foremost," the statement further read.

The statement also said that the 'Cold Water' singer, "is anxiously awaiting the opportunity to get back out on the road and perform in a space that is safe for everyone."
Bieber asked all his fans to hold on to their tickets as the dates of the tour will soon be rescheduled.

According to the World Health Organisation, COVID-19 has affected over 8,27,419 people globally and has spread to almost 206 countries.

Bikaner hospital records 162 infant deaths in December

Bikaner, Jan 5: A government-run hospital in Bikaner saw the death of at least 162 children, higher than the number of deaths in Kota's JK Lon Hospital in December.

"In December, we received 2,219 children from different hospitals out of which 162 children died in the Intensive Care Unit here. None of them was born at the hospital," said Dr HS Kumar, Principal, Sardar Patel Medical College, PBM Hospital.

He, however, denied any negligence on the part of the hospital and said that all efforts were made to save every single life.

The official said that all the deceased children had taken birth at the Primary Healthcare Centres (PHC) and the Community Health Centres (CHC) and were referred to the PBM Hospital in a critical condition.

"Their condition was critical and they breathed their last during treatment," he said.

At least 110 children have lost their lives at JK Lon government hospital in Kota, Rajasthan.
