Bengaluru, Sept 6: Not entirely happy with the performance of the five revenue-generating departments, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has asked them to pull up their socks.

Siddaramaiah on Tuesday reviewed the progress of tax/revenue collection by the Commercial Taxes, Excise, Transport, Stamps and Registration and Mines and Geology Departments, after the implementation of GST.

On learning that not many traders have filed their returns post GST implementation, he instructed Commercial Taxes Department officials to ensure that all traders, who have registered their names, file their returns by next month mandatorily.

Cautioning the officials that he would not hear any excuses during the next meeting, he is learnt to have instructed them to ensure that the traders filed their returns without fail, especially those who have done business transaction over Rs 100 crore.

He also directed officials to dispose off appeals by traders as and when and not keep it pending up to two years.

Unhappy with the revenue generated by the Excise Department, Siddaramaiah told the officials not to seek refuge under the Supreme Court verdict which bans sale of liquor on highways. For, despite the ban, revenue generated by some of the districts was high. He also instructed officials to renew licences of bars by September 15.

Transport Commissioner B Dayanand informed the chief minister that a target of Rs 6,006 crore was given to the department and in this, Rs 2,360 crore has been realised.

The officials of Stamps and Registration Department said except Bengaluru, income generated from other districts is poor in the backdrop of drought conditions and demonetisation. They said the target will be achieved after December.

The Mines and Geology Department has been set a target of Rs 2,667 crore in revenue collection, and it has achieved up to 90 per cent of the target, the officials said.
