Six election personnel among 11 killed in two Naxal attacks

Raipur, Apr 12: Six members of a polling party and five CRPF personnel were killed as Naxals struck twice today in gap of less than an hour, blowing up a bus and an ambulance in Bijapur and Bastar districts of Chhattisgarh. naxul

10 persons were also injured in the two incidents.

The Naxals attacked the polling party near Ketulnar village at about 11 AM when it was returning after voting in the region, Additional Director General of Police (Naxal Operation) RK Vij told PTI.

Polling was held in the Naxal-affected Bastar constituency on April 10.

When the election team reached near a pond in Ketulnar village between Gudma and Kutru, Naxals triggered a landmine blast, he said. "Six polling personnel were killed on the spot and as many people were injured," the ADG added.

The rebels fled to the core forest after security personnel launched a retaliatory attack.

Reinforcements were rushed to the spot and efforts are being made to retrieve the victims from the jungle, he said.

Less that one hour later and about 100 kms away, Naxals blew up an ambulance carrying CRPF personnel under Darbha police station.

The incident took place in Kamanar village when around nine CRPF personnel were travelling in 108 Sanjeevani ambulance, he said.

Five CRPF personnel were killed and four injured in the incident.

Lucknow, Jun 8: The coronavirus which has now been assigned a gender, is being worshipped in Uttar Pradesh also after Bihar as superstition run deep. Women in some villages in Tumkuhiraj, Kasia, Hata, Captanganj and Khadda tehsil in Kushinagar district have started worshipping 'Corona Mai' and are pleading with her to spare lives.

These women have dug a small pit in the field, filled it with water and each one offers nine cloves and nine 'laddoos' to 'Corona Mai' to appease her.

Women from adjoining villages are now flocking to the 'temple' to pray to 'Corona Mai'.

Some local people have appealed to the district administration to stop such activities which spread superstition and misinformation.

Radhey Lal, a school teacher in Kasia, said, "The authorities must stop such activities which promote superstition. Everyone knows that there is no cure for corona and this kind of activities must be stopped."

New Delhi, Apr 6: With an increase of 490 cases in the last 12 hours, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in India climbed to 4067, said Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday.

As many as 109 deaths have been reported across the country due to the deadly disease.
There are 3666 active cases in the country while 292 people have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases so far, standing at 690, followed by Tamil Nadu and Delhi with 571 and 503 cases respectively.
