Sonam most stylish celebrity in Bollywood: Wendell Rodricks

November 28, 2014

Wendell RodricksPanaji, Nov 28: Renowned fashion designer Wendell Rodricks feels Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor is the most stylish celebrity in the film industry.

Rodricks, who has worked with many Bollywood actresses, including Rekha, Bipasha Basu and Anushka Sharma, said unlike others, the 'Khoobsurat' star is always ready to experiment.

"She (Sonam) is one actress who understands fashion really well. She is the most stylish celebrity in Bollywood and a style icon. She is always open to experimenting. She can wear a nice dhoti saree for an event which other actresses would never like to do," Wendell said.

Asked if he would ever like to design Sonam, who grabbed eye balls at many international events for her dressing sense, the Padma Shri awardee designer said, "She does not need any stylist. She herself is a style icon. She is a south Mumbai girl and I know her since she was a kid. She has fashion sense in her blood because her mother was a fashion designer."

Having designed for celebrities in films, the ace designer feels that the clothes which our cinema showcases are not wearable for the masses.

"Bollywood is selling to a mass market. The mass market does not want such clothes. If a director presents foreign locations and good clothes in his/her film then it's the extra advantage a viewer gets.

"Good clothes are just a feel-good medium like the way Hollywood movies after World War II were. They were made to make people forget their sorrow during that time with song- dance and good clothes. Here in India, people do not live in the best of conditions and film is just a fictitious medium to live a larger-than-life character," he said.

Rodricks' design sensibilities would be next seen in Onir's 'Shab', a film delving into the human psyche and the darkness of human mind.

He is designing the outfits for the film's lead Ashish Bisht. 'Shab' will be Rodricks' second stint in Bollywood costume designing after the 2003 Bipasha Basu starrer, 'Jism'.

New Delhi, Apr 23: As the holy month of Ramzan is about to begin, several Muslim public figures on Thursday appealed to the community to offer tarawih and hold iftar inside their homes and follow the lockdown regulations imposed to tackle the coronavirus threat.

Television actor Iqbal Khan in a video message appealed to the people to not step out of their houses during Ramzan.

"This time around, whatever you do during Ramzan, you have to do it inside your houses. Do not visit mosques; offer tarawih (late evening prayers offered during Ramzan) at your homes. Your stepping outside will not only put you in a problem but may put your family members in trouble also," said Khan.

"And that will be wrong, do not go outside. If anyone says you have to go outside then they are wrong. Stay home and stay safe and help others stay safe too," he added.

Another TV actor and Tik Tok star Jannat Zubair asked people to avoid any kind of social gatherings so as to ensure the safety of everyone.

"I know we are in a difficult situation but there is no need to panic. We will overcome this and things will be fine. The holy month of Ramzan is going to start, please stay home, offer prayers at your homes and avoid family/friends gatherings for now. It is just a matter of time, things will be fine soon. Stay home and stay safe," she said.
Ramzan is likely to begin from April 24.

Mumbai, Mar 14: Animal Planet has announced a new documentary "The Zoo: COVID-19 And Animals", which seeks to explore the effects of coronavirus on animals.

The special will see Dave Salmoni, Animal Planet’s big cat expert, talking to a number of experts, from the World Health Organization to wildlife biologists, in order to find out how COVID-19 is affecting animals and what pet owners can do to safeguard them.

The issue came to forefront when a four-year-old Malayan tiger tested positive for COVID-19 at Bronx Zoo in New York.

The documentary will feature chief veterinarian of Bronx Zoo, who will give an update on the big cats and their treatment, and also Dr Peter Embarek from WHO's COVID-19 Task Force, who works particularly on all aspects of the virus related to animals.

In a statement, Salmoni said, "When news about Nadia the tiger came out the questions immediately began; what about my pets? How do I keep my animals and family safe? We’re going to answer these questions and more through this documentary."

"We're speaking to a wide range of experts from the World Health Organization, to wildlife biologists, to veterinarians. We are at war with this disease and so we get down to the nitty-gritty, and discuss practical questions about daily lives with our pets," he added.

Sai Abishek, Director – Content, Factual & Lifestyle Entertainment – South Asia, Discovery, said, "We have been the forefront of busting myths around novel coronavirus with international documentaries. With this latest film, we take a hard look at how animals are being treated during such a crisis and the safety measures that can be taken to keep both, the people and their pets healthy."

"The Zoo: COVID-19 And Animals" will premiere on May 17 on Animal Planet, Animal Planet HD and Discovery Plus app.
