December 26, 2015

Mumbai, Dec 26: Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whose magnum opus "Bajirao Mastani" clashed with Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Dilwale", says the actor is a bigger star and will definitely have a good opening at the box office any day.

SRK"Shah Rukh is a bigger star. He is such a big star that even if he would have come on any day he would have got a good opening," Bhansali said.

"We are happy creating it and seeing it (Bajirao Mastani). It was magic. There was some blessing of God constantly on the film so I knew it will start a little slow but we will eventually catch up," he added.

Reportedly "Dilwale" had collected Rs 21 cr on the first day, Rs 20.09 cr on the second day, Rs 24 cr on the third day and Rs 10.09 cr on Monday. The SRK starrer film collected Rs 75.18 cr in the first four days.

On the other hand "Bajirao Mastani" on day one earned Rs 12.80 cr, and saw an upsurge in its collections on day two as it collected Rs 15.52 cr, Rs 18.45 cr on the third day and Rs 10.25 cr on Monday. Total collections of the Bhansali film are Rs 57.02 cr.

The "Black" director is happy that the word of mouth has helped "Bajirao Mastani" gain momentum at the box office.

"It is heartening to know that people are loving our film so all that numbers and mathematics eventually collapse when you like a film or you don't like a film. So, when I have more number of screens but if people don’t like the film it doesn’t matter," he said.

"The repeat value is important. Love of the people to experience this world of 'Bajirao Mastani' is important," he added.

Bhansali's directorial venture "Bajirao Mastani" is the love story of the Peshwa Bajirao and the half-Muslim Bundelkhandi princess Mastani.

While the Rohit Shetty film is an action comedy. "Both 'Bajirao Mastani' and 'Dilwale' are of different genres... This is a full family big screen experience that is comedy..I am not sure about the genre. The genre of both the film is different, different actors and two different directors," the 52-year-old director said.

Before the release of "Bajirao Mastani" the producers were fighting a battle for getting more screen space and the matter even reached court. At this time Bhansali was caught up giving finishing touches to the film.

"I have not taken that stress (of screen space) the producers Eros International take that stress. I was mixing.. giving final touches four-five days before the release of the film. I was making sure we do not miss out on the deadlines," he said.

"Eros takes care of screen space as it is their expertise... They don't come in between when I am taking a shot. It was important for me to know about it (number of screens and all) but I had left it as finishing touches of the film were more important to me," he added.

Mumbai, Jan 30: A day after a woman filed a complaint against Ganesh Acharya alleging that he had forced her to watch pornography, actor Tanushree Dutta said Bollywood should boycott the choreographer.

A 33-year-old woman, an assistant choreographer, has written to the National Commission for Women (NCW) alleging that Acharya used to make her watch porn videos whenever she visited his office in suburban Andheri.

She also alleged that Acharya and two women assaulted her during a function of the Indian Film and Television Choreographers Association (IFTCA) held in suburban Andheri on Sunday. A complaint has been filed in this regard with Amboli police.

"It's time Bollywood and the other Indian film industries boycott choreographer Ganesh Acharya completely. Hiding behind the male superstars who work with this despicable man, he has been abusing his power and position to harass, bully and take advantage of vulnerable young newcomers to the industry," Dutta said in a statement here.

Dutta had alleged that her co-star Nana Patekar harassed and misbehaved with her while shooting for a song for their 2008 film "Horn Ok Pleasss", and Acharya, who was the choreographer, introduced new steps which were "intimate".

Recalling the trauma she faced, Tanushree said even though Acharya was party to all the harassment she faced on the 'Horn ok Pleasss" set, he went on to spoil her name and reputation.

"Nobody had any regard for me and how much I had suffered psychologically and financially because of the turmoil I went though due to these people. I left the industry because I was so scared and hurt over the atrocious treatment meted out to me on 'Horn ok Pleasss' set.

"I had worked very sincerely to get to where I got in life and so went in shock for many years, over the whole episode on that set almost 12 years ago, that led to an attack on my car. They didn't just break my car, they broke my spirit that day," Dutta said, in reference to the attack on her car in 2008.

She expressed her displeasure over how "leading men" and "heroes" of Bollywood continued working with Acharya, whose most recent work includes "Simmba", "Zero", "Sanju" among others.

"Even after all the information of fraud, non payment of dues, sexual harassment of dancers, bullying and intimidation and even physical abuse of dancers is coming out about Ganesh Acharya in the media, if the actors, directors and producers still work with him, it would mean that they themselves are engaging in such acts also.

"It's a warning to the film industry to stay the hell away from Ganesh Acharya otherwise your own reputation will be joined to his character. I'm sure many more girls and boys will come out about his misbehaviour and shady business, opening floodgates in the future," she added.

Chennai, Jan 15: Superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday called for neutrality in journalism and urged media outlets to report the truth.

Addressing an event organised by Tamil magazine ''Thuglak' in Chennai, the superstar-turned-politician said that the country needs a journalist like the late Cho S Ramaswamy, who helmed the publication for decades.

"The times, politics and society are going bad. In such a scenario, the media had a huge responsibility towards the people," he said.

Some television channels are biased towards political parties, Rajinikanth said. He added that media, critics and journalists must report the truth impartially.

Comparing true news to milk and fake reportage to water, Rajinikanth said people will not be able to distinguish between the two if they are mixed.

"Only journalists need to tell which portion is milk and which is water...write the truth and don't make a lie seem like truth," he said, amid applause.

Los Angeles, May 24: Filmmaker Frank Marshall, one of the producers behind Jurassic World: Dominion, says the forthcoming film is not a conclusion of the franchise.

Colin Trevorrow, who rebooted Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Jurassic Park franchise with 2015's Jurassic World, is back on the director's chair after sitting out on second movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018).

Asked about the upcoming movie, Marshall told Collider: "It's the start of a new era."

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are coming back for the third film, which will also feature original stars of 1993's Jurassic Park -- Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill.

The producer also revealed how he sees the film franchise extending into the future.

"The dinosaurs are now on the mainland amongst us, and they will be for quite some time, I hope," Marshall said.

The film was three weeks into production when it was shut down over coronavirus concerns, but the producer said the team has the sets built in London and will be "back in business" once they have guidelines from the British government.

Dominion is still slated to be released on its scheduled date of June 11, 2021.
