A sword is hanging on my head, says Salman Khan on cases against him

November 2, 2015

Mumbai, Nov 2: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is a worried man. Despite all the success he has achieved in the film industry and despite the huge fan following, the impending verdict of his court cases is always at the back of his mind.

Salman“What is going to happen to the verdicts. If you add five...five years it comes to 10-15 years. That is a big worry on my parents head...my head. It is a big one. It is not in magistrate court... it is in high court. Whatever will be my life’s journey after that... will take it,” Khan said in an interview.

Khan is presently undergoing trial in the 2002 hit-and-run case in Mumbai. The actor was convicted on charges of culpable homicide, not amounting to murder, in the case on May 6. His white Toyota Landcruiser ran over the men who were sleeping on pavement in suburban Bandra on September 28, 2002, killing one and injuring four others.

In the latest arguments in the case, Khan’s lawyer on Friday said there is no evidence to show that the death of the victim in the 2002 hit-and-run case was due to the accident. He said there is a possibility that the man died because of a car which fell on the victim while it was being lifted by a crane.

“After doing all this you have to do comedy, do ‘Bigg Boss’ but at the same time a sword is hanging on your head, you see parents reacting, and what they are going through,” he added.

According to the 49-year-old actor, his work cannot save him from the verdict. “The beauty of my job is no matter how much ever good you do, people are insensitive... romancing Sonam, dancing with Jacqueline, going to Poland shooting, earning Rs 600 crore... but they don’t know how much we have (on our plate)... They say he has a case on him but he is enjoying.

“All these things are totally against me... All my good work is totally against me when it comes to people responsible for signing the verdict,” he said.

Two more cases are pending against him in Jodhpur, one is under arms act for illegal arms possession and the other under the wildlife protection act for poaching blackbucks.

Khan was sentenced to one year in prison for hunting the blackbuck, an endangered species on 17 February 2006. The sentence was stayed by a higher court during appeal. He was handed a five-year jail term and remanded to Jodhpur jail for three days on 10 April, 2006. He was granted bail in the case.

Rajasthan high court had finalised charges against Khan and his other colleagues in the case paving the way for start of the trial on 24 July, 2012. And in July this year, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the actor on Rajasthan government’s plea challenging the HC order suspending his conviction.

“We will see the prayers, wishes. It is for people who believe in prayers. Yes I do (believe in prayers)... lot of people do believe and there are others who do not believe it. And those who have powers do not believe,” Khan said when asked if he believes in prayers and good wishes.

His next film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo opposite Sonam Kapoor is due to release later this month.

New Delhi, Jul 31: After an FIR was registered against her in various sections including abetment of suicide in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, actor Rhea Chakraborty on Friday said that she has faith in the judiciary and she will get justice.

In a video statement issued by her lawyers, the actor refrained from commenting on "horrible things" being said against her saying that the matter is sub judice.

“I have immense faith in God and the judiciary. I believe that I will get justice. Even though horrible things are being said about me in the electronic media. I refrain from commenting on the advice of my lawyers as the matter is sub judice. Satyamev Jayate. The truth shall prevail," Chakraborty said in the video statement.

An FIR was filed by Rajput's father KK Singh against Chakraborty in Bihar under several sections including abetment of suicide.

Days after Rajput's death, Chakraborty said she was the "girlfriend" of the 'Dil Bechara' actor while requesting a CBI inquiry in the case.

Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai residence on June 14.

Chakraborty has also approached the Supreme Court for transfer of investigation to Mumbai in the FIR registered against her in Patna.

Earlier in the day, targeting Chakraborty over Rajput's death, Bihar Minister and JD-U leader Maheshwar Hazari said she played the role of "vishkanya" and alleged that there is a "big gang" behind the "killing" of the actor.

"There is a big gang behind the killing of Sushant Singh Rajput. Earlier also talented people who went to Mumbai for work were killed. This gang used Rhea Chakraborty. She trapped Sushant Singh Rajput in a love affair, got his money transferred. Later, she started drama of 'bhoot pret' (ghosts) and played the role of a 'vishkanya'. She sabotaged his talent and defamed love," Hazari said.

According to the Maharashtra police, statements of 41 people, including filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, film critic Rajeev Masand, director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and filmmaker Aditya Chopra have been recorded in the investigation so far.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had said that Mumbai Police are investigating the case and it will not be transferred to the CBI.

Mumbai, Jan 9: A day after Deepika Padukone visited the JNU campus to express solidarity with students who had been attacked, her film "Chhapaak" made another splash on Wednesday over the name of its antagonist.

While Deepika was the focus of many a discussion on social media and beyond for showing up at a public meeting in the university, the film, based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, was also making news for quite another reason.

In what could well be a storm in a 'Twitter cup', "Nadeem Khan" and "Rajesh" began trending on the microblogging site after a magazine article claimed the name of the antagonist had been changed. By 4 pm, 'Nadeem Khan' clocked close to 60,000 tweets and 'Rajesh' close behind with 50,000.

In 2005, Laxmi was disfigured for life when a man called Nadeem Khan and three others allegedly hurled acid at her in Delhi's upscale Khan Market.

In the film based on her life, the narrative remains the same but the names have been changed. So, Laxmi is 'Malti' Agarwal and Nadeem becomes 'Babboo' aka 'Bashir Khan'.

On Wednesday, Swarajya magazine wrote an article headlined, "The Ways Of Bollywood: In Deepika Padukone-Starer Chhapaak, Acid Attacker Naeem Khan Becomes ‘Rajesh'." "As part of a backlash against Padukone's JNU 'meet and greet', social media users researched the names of the characters involved in the movie Chhapaak and conspicuously found the name of main perpetrator Naeem Khan absent," the article alleged.

But in the Meghna Gulzar directed film, there is no mention of any Nadeem or Naeem Khan. Moreover, Rajesh is the name of Malti's boyfriend.

Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Babul Supriyo jumped into the controversy, saying it was another example of "absolute hypocrisy".

"...When you say all characters are fictitious and don't have any resemblance with living beings and all of that, this is absolute hypocrisy. When you change the name which also changes the religion, it has been done very deliberately," Supriyo told a TV channel when asked to comment on the controversy.

South Delhi BJP MP Ramesh Biduri also called for a boycott of the movie.

With Deepika grabbing attention by going to JNU, many appreciated her 'silent solidarity' but others criticised her for "supporting the Leftists" and said it was a promotional stunt ahead of the release.

"#BoycottChhapaak" was trending on Twitter as was "#ISupportDeepika".
