Teen lynched in Tamil Nadu over mobile-phone theft

Karur, Sept 23: A 15-year-old boy was allegedly lynched by a group of people in Tamil Nadu's Karur district on Sunday over suspicion that he had stolen a mobile phone, police said.

The boy, allegedly in the habit of indulging in small thefts, was fatally beaten up by some people, who suspected him to be behind the theft of the mobile phone and Rs 3,000 cash of a man in Allalikoundanur village, a police officer said.

The boy's mother, a widow, fled the house when the enraged mob came looking for her son. After she returned, the woman found the boy dead with injury marks, the officer said.

Following investigation, it was found he had been lynched. A case has been registered and action would be taken against the culprits, the officer added.

Bengaluru, Feb 19: Bengaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) on Wednesday raided a spa in Koramangala area and rescued six girls.

The owner of the spa is absconding and the manager has been arrested.

Panaji, Feb 23: A MiG-29K aircraft crashed off Goa during a routine training sortie on Sunday morning, the Indian Navy said in a statement.

"The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered. An enquiry into the incident has been ordered," the statement said.

On November 16, a MiG-29K trainer flight had crashed after a bird hit, soon after it took off the Dabolim International airport, which functions out of the Indian Navy base INS Hansa.

Both pilots had managed to safely eject themselves to safety after both the engines of their jet failed.

According to data tabled in the recent budget session of the Goa Assembly, every ten days, at least one aircraft landing or taking off at Goa's Dabolim international airport faces dangers involving birds or stray dogs near the runway.

Kozhikode, Jul 20: A 17-year old boy died of head injuries while trying to protect his mother from being assaulted by his drunk father here, police said on Sunday.

The youngster suffered the fatal injury after his head hit against the door when his father shoved him at their home on Saturday. Venu, had come home in an inebriated state and picked up a quarrel with his wife and started beating her up, they said.

On seeing this, Alan tried to intervene. Though the boy was rushed to the hospital, his life could not be saved, they added. Venu was arrested and a case has been registered.
