Mangaluru, Sep 23: An employee of Kukke Subrahmanya temple has been arrested on charge of stealing money from donation boxes.
The arrested is Halkura Gowda (50) who is in charge of counting donations made at the temple. He has been working in the temple for over two decades.
The Subrahmanya police said that the Executive Officer of the temple filed a complaint on September 15 stating that some money from donation boxes had gone missing. They suspected theft.
During investigation, the police went through the CCTV footage and found that Halkura Gowda was pocketing some notes while counting collection from the donation boxes.
The police went to Halkura Gowda's house and seized Rs. 33,300 in cash that he had reportedly pocketed during counting. The police have registered a case. Halkura Gowda has been remanded in judicial custody, the police said.
