Temple tragedy: death toll due to food poison increases to 15

Mysuru, Dec 18: The death toll due to suspected food poison in a temple 'Prasada' at Sulwadi village in Chamarajanagara District on Friday last rose to 15 with a 50 year-old woman died in a private hospital on Tuesday.

Hospital sources said that deceased Dundamma, resident of M M Hills, who was admitted to hospital on Dec 13, breathed last this afternoon.

Of the 101 patients admitted in hospitals here, 45 are still in the ICU and 20 on ventilator support. About 54 patients had been shifted to the wards.

Mangaluru, Aug 1: Former member of Karnataka Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. 

The Congress leader took to social media to break the news. “I and my wife Dr Kavitha have been tested positive covid-19 positive. There are no symptoms. We had voluntarily given our throat swabs for testing,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also requested his friends and well-wishers not to visit him until he recovers. 

Mr D’Souza had participated in a party meeting at Congress Bhavan when KPCC chief DK Shivakumar visited city yesterday. He was seen meeting several Congress leaders including U T Khader.

Bengaluru, Mar 10: Congress leader NA Haris on Tuesday said that keeping Jammu and Kashmir leaders under house arrest is not democratic.

Speaking to media persons he said, "It is not done. Keeping the leaders under house arrest in Jammu and Kashmir is not democratic."

Haris said that nobody is talking about it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not talking about it and nothing is happing.

"About Kashmir, it is better to say less as nobody is talking about it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not talking about it and nothing is happening. It does not look good," he told media.

"I think leaders should be brought to the table and discussion on issues should take place. Do whatever has to be done for the country," he added.

The Jammu and Kashmir Administration had on February 5 invoked the Public Safety Act (PSA) against former Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah. The duo was detained after the Central government abrogated Article 370 last year.

Mangaluru, May 23: Two more persons tested positive for covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada today taking the district's tally to 65.

One among them is a 30-year-old man who had returned from Maharashtra and was under quarantine. He underwent test at a private lab and was tested positive.

The other one is a 41-year-old woman who is a resident of Shirlalu in Beltangady and had symptoms of influenza-like illness. 

She was urged by residents in the surroundings of her house to go for a test. She was shifted to Wenlock COVID hospital in the morning on Saturday.
