Tension grips Mysuru after murder of BJP worker; Bandh being imposed

Mysuru, Mar 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party and other Hindutva groups are trying to impose a forceful bandh in Mysuru on Monday in protest against the death of a BJP worker in a clash on Sunday.

Raju (30), an electrical contractor, was murdered at Lal Bahadur Shastry Circle on M?G?Road under Udayagiri police station limits by a gang of three persons. The incident triggered tension in parts of the city.

It is said that Raju, along with his friend Jayakumar, was drinking tea at a roadside shop, when three bike-borne people arrived and attacked Raju with lethal weapons, before fleeing from the spot. Raju, who sustained severe injuries on his face and ears, died on the spot.

According to police, Raju, a resident of Kyatamaranahalli in the city, had left home on Sunday morning to meet his friends. Following the incident, a large crowd had gathered in front of the K R?Hospital mortuary demanding police to arrest the accused immediately.

As news of the murder spread, a large number of party supporters and workers gathered at the K.R. Hospital mortuary, resulting in tension for some time. Commissioner of Police B. Dayananda rushed to the spot and there were arguments between the police the party supporters.

A few people in the crowd also tried to gherao Police Commissioner. Security has been tightened near the mortuary.

Meanwhile, condemning the murder, BJP state unit president Pralhad Joshi said the BJP would support the Mysuru city bandh called on Monday. Accusing the police of failure to prevent such an incident, he demanded that the culprits be arrested at the earliest.

Karnataka Muzarai Department suffers Rs 600 cr loss due to lockdown: Minister

Mangaluru, Jun 2: The Karnataka Muzarai department, whose main income comes through temple and other religious places of worship, has incurred a loss of Rs 600 Crore in revenue during the lock-down, Minister for Muzrai Kota Srinivas Poojary said on Monday.

Addressing reporters here, he said the Kollur Sri Mookambika temple alone lost revenue of about Rs 14 crore it was earning during April and May.

Around 300 A and B grade temples under Muzrai (Hindu religious institutions and charitable endowments) department in the State lost around 35 per cent of their annual income, he said.

Mangaluru: Woman who tested positive for COVID-19 gives birth

Mangaluru, Jun 12: A pregnant woman who returned from Maharashtra and tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, gave birth to a child at the Wenlock COVID-19 hospital in Mangaluru. After she experienced labour pain, a team of expert doctors performed the delivery through the caesarean section on Thursday.

Both the woman and the new born are safe, hospital sources said. The woman, who belongs to Kinnigoli in Dakshina Kannada district, had arrived in the city on Monday. She was in an advanced stage of pregnancy and was taken to another hospital the next day after she complained of weakness.

As she came from Maharashtra, she was shifted to a separate ward at the Wenlock hospital and quarantined. Her throat swab samples tested positive on Wednesday. A COVID-19 test will be done on the baby after a few days, district health officer Ramachandra Bairy said.

Mangaluru | Miscreants pour kerosene on 200kg beef, thrash driver after waylaying vehicle

Mangaluru, June 21: A gang of miscreants intercepted a goods auto-rickshaw which was legally transporting beef from an abattoir to market and attacked its driver in heart of the city this morning.

The attack comes exactly a week after a gang of Bajrang Dal miscreants thrashed a cattle trader at Urwa while legally transporting four buffalos to Kudroli abattoir on June 13.

Today, a person identified as Abdul Rasheed was transporting around 200 kilograms of beef from Kudroli abattoir to Kankanady market.

Meanwhile, miscreants began to chase beef laden vehicle and managed to waylay it near Highland Hospital. They thrashed Abdul Rasheed and poured kerosene on the beef besides damaging the vehicle.

The miscreants fled in their car and motorbikes after passersby began to gather.

Dear DC Dr. Harsha, we want to know if you will take strict action on these anti nationals / rowdis / day robbers / terrorists who ransacked auto + beaten the auto driwer and stolen Rs. 10,000 from him though he was legally transporting the meat. They same terrorists are involved in transporting live animals to beef export houses in Gujrat owned by Brahmins / Jains. Will you be loyal to your duty and promise. We will see how you will handle the issue failing which you will lose our respect and we will consider you as a dramabaz and phenku. You should follow the law and treat everyone equally. There should not be any pity on goondas/ terrorists belonging to sangh parivar. The terrorists who thrashed the auto driver and damaged the auto and burnt the meat by pouring kerosene are not human beings and should be treated as anti nationals + terrorists.
