Mangaluru, Apr 2: A lecturer of a private degree college at Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district allegedly forced five Muslim girls to remove their headscarf triggering a protest from their community members.

The conflict, however, appears to have subsided as the management of Nehru Memorial College (First Grade) took necessary steps to strike a compromise formula with students with the help of police.

The issue started during a photo session of college students on Wednesday. The students were divided into batches and departments for the photo session.

When the student volunteers of the Indian Red Cross unit in the college were posing for the photo, one of the lecturers interfered and asked five Muslim girls in the group to remove their headscarf. The lecturer reportedly scolded the girls when they refused to remove their scarf.

When the news began to spread several student organisations tried to get involved in the issue. The very next day, the local unit of the Campus Front of India staged a protest in front of the college.

The college management meanwhile sought the help of police to solve the issue. The police convinced the agitators that any female student will not be forced to remove their headscarf against their will.

Giridhar Gowda, principal of the college refused to comment on the issue saying that it was an internal matter of the college.

Nehru Memorial College (First Grade), Sullia sponsored by the Academy of Liberal Education (Regd) Sullia was started in 1976 under the leadership of its Founder President Dr Kurunji Venkatramana Gowda. It is a co-educational institution and offers undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, Science, Social Work, Business Management and Post-Graduation in Social Work (MSW).

BIBLE SAYS:
1 Corinthians 11:5-6 : But every wife who prays or prophesies with her HEAD UNcovered DISHONORS her head, Since it is the same as if her head were shaven. For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is DISGRACEFUL for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her HEAD.

VEDA says :
Rig VEDA Book no 8 Hymn no 33 V.no. 19 : When Brahma has made YOU a WOMAN, You should lower gaze and should not look up. You should put your feet together and you should not reveal what the garment and the veil conceals.

QURAN Chapter 33 V 9 : O Prophet! say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the faithful to draw their outer garments close around themselves, that is BETTER that they will be recognized and not annoyed. And ALLAH is ever forgiving , Gentle.

Mangaluru, Feb 5: ‘Forum for the justice of December 19 Mangaluru firing victims’ has demanded that the policemen who are responsible for the death of two innocent men in Mangaluru one-and-a-half months ago should be booked for homicide.

49-year-old Abdul Jaleel Kandak, a father of two, and 23-year-old Nausheen Kudroli, were killed in an arbitrary and unwarranted police firing during a disturbance occurred due to police baton charge in the city on December 2019.

Addressing a press conference, Forum’s convenor Abdul Jaleel Krishnapur said that a judicial inquiry commission should be set up to probe into the police firing which claimed two lives and injured many other innocent civilians.

“Already a murder case should have been filed against the policemen who opened fire on the people.  Instead, false cases have been booked against many innocent people including the victims. This is a blot on the society,” he said.

He urged the government to direct the police department to drop false charges registered against the victims and take necessary action against the culprits in khaki.

He said that the Form demands Rs 25 lakh each compensation for the kin of the two men murdered by the police and Rs 15 lakh compensation for those who injured in police firing on December 19.

Kochi/Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 7: The Managing Director of Muthoot Finance company was injured after miscreants allegedly pelted his car with stones here on Tuesday morning following which one person was reportedly taken into custody.

George Alexander Muthoot, who suffered head injury has been admitted to a private hospital, police said.

A section of employees have been agitating against the Muthoot management over dismissal of 160 staff from the company's 43 branches across the state in December.

The protest is being held under the aegis of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).

While the Muthoot management alleged that "CITU goons" were behind the attack that occurred at around 9 am in front of IG office here, the union leaders have maintained that they have no role in the incident.

Reacting to the incident, Labour Minister T P Ramakrishnan said he does not think any of the Muthoot employees were behind the attack.

"The employees were protesting peacefully. Violence is not part of their protest. Even now, in today's incident, I don't think any of the Muthoot employees attacked the MD.

However, it was the management of the company which had always provoked them by not implementing the decisions taken at conciliatory meetings," the Minister said.

If the management was prepared to change its stance, all the issues would be resolved, he said.

CITU leader Ananthavattom Anandan told reporters that they do not believe in such type of violent mode of agitation.

An official of the Confederation of Indian Industries Kerala chapter condemned the incident, saying "it is a matter of great concern".

Well known businessman and founder chairman and CEO of V-Guard Industries, Kochouseph Chittilappilly condemned the attack and said it was unfortunate that such incidents still continue in the state.

“Earlier also such incidents have taken palace. It's highly condemnable. The union leaders will now claim that the incident took place without their knowledge. But without the backing of union, such incidents will never happen,” he said.

Kerala-headquartered Muthoot Finance is the largest gold financing company in India.

New Delhi, Jul 3: Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) in Karnataka have emerged as a "crucial pillar in the state's success" in combating Covid-19, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.

Acknowledging and praising their work, the ministry said they have been actively participating in household surveys in the state, screening inter-state passengers, migrant workers and others in the community for symptoms of the infection,

“Around 42,000 ASHAs have emerged as a crucial pillar in the state's success” in combating Covid-19, the ministry said.

"Recognizing the increased vulnerability of certain population groups to Covid-19, in a one-time survey to identify households with the elderly, persons with co-morbidities, and immune-compromised individuals, about 1.59 crore households were covered," the ministry said in a statement.

ASHAs regularly monitor such high-risk groups in their area with a periodicity of follow-up visits varying from once a day in the containment zones to once every 15 days in other areas, it said.

They also visit the houses of persons complaining influenza-like-illness (ILI) symptoms and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), besides high-risk individuals who have called the state health department helpline numbers, the ministry said.

ASHAs are a part of the Rural Task Force, headed by Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) at the Gram Panchayat level, for addressing public grievances on both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 related services.

ASHAs are trained female community health activists selected from the village itself and accountable to it. They are trained to work as an interface between the community and the public health system.

In the urban areas too, they have been at the forefront of dissemination of various awareness activities in fever clinics and swab collection centres in urban areas.

They have also actively screened cases of ILI and SARI in urban areas. They are also part of the screening teams at international and interstate check-posts.

Karnataka has reported 272 Covid-19 deaths and 18,016 cases, according to the health ministry data updated at 8 AM.
