Three self-styled Hindutva activists held for thrashing college boys and girls at Pilikula

Mangaluru, Jan 2: Hours after a group of communal rowdies thrashed a few college students belonging to different faiths at Pilikula in Mangaluru taluk on Tuesday, the police arrested three of the assailants.

The arrested have been identified as Sampath Shetty, Varada and Dinesh – all said to be local residents. All of them are said to be self-styled Hindutva activists.

Two girls of first PU- a Hindu and a Christian- and two boys belonging to different communities were thrashed by the miscreants for being together at Manasa Amusement and Water Park at Pilikula.

Later the parents of the Christian girl lodged a complaint with the jurisdictional Kavoor police station. Based on this complaint the cops managed to arrest three miscreants and booked them under section 341, 342, 324, 506, 509, 355, 153 (A), R/W 74 (1) JJ Act.

These three people should be treated in the same way as Mr tejpal has been treated in Goa. They should not be able to come out for long time. This can be possible only if our MP will not intevene.

Nikulna moneg chappal podi manpodu ya... i wonder these bele ijjandina people, parre olpadh kaas ya nikleg, pardh podhu yer yereg haakunu.. Gumpu gumpu aadh podhu haakunu, oriye oriye popujjer. . Hope 1 day public will unite wen such incident occur in future, and these goons a lesson..

Hassan, July 31: A police sub-inspector (PSI) reportedly hanged himself at his official quarters in Channarayapatna town today morning.

The deceased has been identified as Kiran Kumar, 34, who was in charge of Channarayapatna rural police station.

Sources said that he was upset after two murder cases were reported in the last 24 hours in his limits. Kiran reportedly told colleagues an hour before the extreme step that he feared he would be suspended.  

According to locals, the SI was upset after news of the two murders due to alleged negligence of the police spread on social media. He killed himself before a visit by senior officials. IGP, southern range, and SP Srinivasagowda was planning to visit the town and the spots where the murders took place on Friday.

Kiran, a native of Lalanakere village in Arsikere taluk, was known for his rapport with local people. He was alone when the incident took place. His wife and children had gone to Lalanakere for the Varamahalakashmi festival on Thursday night. The body was shifted to the mortuary for a postmortem.

Mangaluru, Jan 17: A poultry truck transporting chickens overturned on Friday at Perne village near Uppinangady on Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway, killing 200 of them.

Police said that the truck was headed towards Mangaluru from Uppinangady when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to topple. As many as 200 chickens were killed in the mishap.

Another vehicle was later used to transport the remaining chickens.

Bengaluru, Jul 15: Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced temporary halt of production at its plant in Bidadi, which is on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

“Halting production will be from July 14 (second shift) to July 22 (first shift) and this is in accordance with the directives issued by the Government of Karnataka as well as to support the Govt. in their constant efforts to flatten the curve of the rising Covid-19 positive cases in Karnataka,” a statement from the company said.

Bengaluru Urban and Rural, and other districts are, are under lockdown from 8 pm on July 14 to 5 am on July 22.

“Since the onset of the pandemic, TKM has adopted a very proactive and multi-faceted approach to safeguard the physical as well as the mental well-being of all its stakeholders including customers, its employees, dealer and supplier partners,” the company said.

“The office staff at TKM’s corporate and regional offices, continue to work from home to help mitigate risks. In addition to the safety protocols that are being followed, TKM has provided safety kits containing essential items like sanitisers, 3 ply masks and handwashes to 5000 employees, their family members and their neighbourhoods.

“TKM understands the urgency of the situation. During these difficult times, TKM is taking obligatory actions to contain further spread and will continue to respond in accordance with guidance issued by the Government and its internal standards,” it added.
