Madurai, Dec 5: Tamil Nadu Bishop's Council (TNBC) on Wednesday appealed to Karnataka government to refrain from constructing the controversial dam at Mekedatu across River Cauvery.
In a statement here, TNCB President Most. Rev. Antony Pappusamy, Archbishop of Madurai, said that the move to build the dam would adversely affect the people of Tamil Nadu, particularly farmers in Delta districts who are dependent on Cauvery water.
He said the Mekedatu project was designed with the objective of allowing only the people of Karnataka to benefit from Cauvery River.
