Triple talaq is anevil social practice', will end it for sure: Law Minister

February 6, 2017

Ghaziabad, Feb 6: The Centre is likely to take “a major step” to ban the controversial triple talaq after the ongoing Assembly polls, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said and dared the Samajwadi Party, the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party to make their stand clear on the contentious issue.

raviInsisting that the issue is not related to religion but involves respect and dignity of women, he said the government “respects faith but worship and social evil cannot coexist.”

He said the tradition of triple talaq denies respect to women and the central government was committed to ending the “evil social practice.”

“The government may take a major step to ban triple talaq after the UP Assembly polls,” he said while addressing a press conference in Ghaziabad on Saturday evening. The Assembly polls being held in UP and four other states will conclude on March 11.

Asserting that “every pernicious practice” cannot be part of a religion, the minister, who is a lawyer himself, said the Centre would raise the issue in the Supreme Court on three points -- justice, equality and dignity of women.

“We are the only party which respects women. Neither do other parties offer a good place to women nor do they respect them,” said Mr Prasad, a senior BJP leader.

“The government respects faith but worship and social evil cannot coexist,” he said.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow on Sunday, the union minister said: “I want Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi and Mayawati to clarify their stand on the issue of triple talaq. Our (the BJP's) stand is very clear. The issue is not related to religion but involves respect and dignity of women.”

Attacking the BSP, he said it should rise above caste politics and respect women.

Dear Ravi Shankar, where were u when hundreds of muslim women were butchered in Gujarat, why cant you give justice to Ahsaan Jafry wife, where is Najeeb and why are u closing eyes while Najeeb's mom is requesting for justice. You are a crocodile and Lomli. You have already fooled Naqwi + Shahnawaz and trying to fool others also. You will not get success in this. You are a hypocrite and opportunist. You may marry those women who are contacting you regarding the issue as they are not respecting Islam and may be ready to marry you.

First give justice to Mrs.Jaffery for burning her husband alive. Give justice to honorable MP E. Ahmed's family for disrespecting his death.

In islam women's are getting more respect, dignity and protection than any other religion. Study religion of islam in its right path then you will understand the beauty of Islam.

Bengaluru, Jun 30: In an attempt to tackle unemployment amidst covid-19 crisis, the Karnataka state government has launched a job portal connecting employers and job seekers.

The portal, 'Skill connect' ( https://skillconnect.kaushalkar.com/ ) provides region-wise and sector-wise job listings. An interested candidate can register on the portal and either apply for jobs or can also seek skill training.

As on Monday, the portal has 25 registered companies with over 2000 jobs available in various sectors.

The portal works more or less on similar lines as that of any private job portal, except that those posting jobs and candidates searching for employment will have to register with the Skill Development Department.

Launching the portal on Monday, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa hoped that the portal would provide an impetus to job creation, as well as the economic revival of the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan who is also the skill development Minister added, "All these years, there was no information and communication between job seekers and recruiters. This portal will solve that problem."

Also, until now, there hasn't been comprehensive information either on those seeking jobs or those looking for employees. The skill development efforts have not been in sync with the market. All these issues would be addressed by the portal, he said.

According to Karnataka Skill Development Authority Managing Director Ashwin Gowda, the portal has already seen a response with about 68 applicants in just a day.

Officials said even the organisations will have to register with the government while providing all documents concerned. The government aims to avoid any fake job advertisements through this. "We will also enable virtual interviews between the candidate and the employer," sources in the department told DH.

Recently, the government had also launched a portal exclusively for migrants who had returned to Karnataka from other places. This was meant to work as a skill registry.

However, the portal that was launched on Monday, went a step ahead by connecting both the prospective employers and employees, according to officials in the department.

Bengaluru, Jun 25: Former Karnataka chief minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday claimed that there are shortage of beds and ventilators to treat COVID-19 patients in the state.

In a series of tweets, he targetted the Karnataka government on COVID-19 management.

"The state government has failed to provide adequate treatment to those infected with corona. There are no beds and no ventilators to treat more than four thousand patients. Self-induced lockdown is the only solution," he tweeted.

In his subsequent tweet, he said, "Residents of the state, including Bangalore, now have only one way to escape from COVID-19. Stay at home and celebrate yourself as a self-proclaimed lockdown. Money is not more important than life. Your life is in your hands now."

In another tweet, former Chief Minister alleged that the government has fixed Rs 10-15,000 per day for COVID-19 treatment in private hospitals.

"The state government is also saying this indirectly. The 'home remedy' in the home is to stay at home and be safe. The government has fixed Rs 10-15,000 per day for the treatment of this infection in private hospitals. How poor can afford it while upper class can't afford," he tweeted.

"If four members of a family infected with corona, the cost of treatment for a 15-day treatment at a private hospital is Rs 5-6 lakh. Where do the poor bring that Much money? We must save our lives while the government is sitting incapable. This is my concern for the people of the state," he said in another tweet.

In a video message that HD Kumaraswamy demanded the state government to give all kinds of safety and security to the students who are writing the SSLC exam tomorrow.
HD Kumaraswamy also urged students to be careful.

About 8,48,203 students will appear in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination tomorrow, said Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu on Wednesday.
