New Delhi, May 8: Bollywood has often seen some of its best actors get embroiled in a controversy and then probably bear the brunt by going behind the bars. Two of the biggest names in the industry, who faced somewhat similar situation in their personal lives are Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan.

salman sanjayWhile Salman Khan has been pronounced with a 5-year jail term by Mumbai sessions court in relation to the 2002 hit-and-run case—the entire industry has gone into a streak of depression. A similar reaction was seen when actor Sanjay Dutt was convicted in the illegal possession of arms relating to the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and sentenced to five years imprisonment.

Dutt was held under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) in April 1993, due to terrorist interactions, and illegal possession of a 9mm pistol and an AK-56 assault rifle. After spending 18 months in jail, he was granted bail in April 1995. In July 2007 he was sent to six years rigorous imprisonment. The Supreme Court on March 21, 2013 had pronounced its judgement on Dutt.

Sanjay Dutt is currently serving his remaining 42 month prison term in connection with the illegal possession of arms in 1993 Mumbai blasts.

On the other hand, Salman has another case looming over his head—the black buck poaching case. On 17 February 2006, the actor was sentenced to one year in prison for hunting the Chinkara, an endangered species while shooting for 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' in 1998.

On 10 April 2006, he was handed a five-year jail term and remanded to Jodhpur jail until 13 April when he was granted bail. On 24 July 2012, Rajasthan High Court finalised charges against Salman Khan and his other colleagues in the endangered black buck killing case, paving way for start of the trial. Supreme Court issued a notice to Salman on Rajasthan government's plea challenging the HC order suspending his conviction.

Mumbai, Jul 2: The Mumbai police have summoned noted filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for questioning in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput suicide case. According to several reports, casting director Shanoo Sharma too might be questioned in connection with the star’s death.

Reports also state that Kangana Ranaut and Shekhar Kapur, who are not directly involved with the investigation, are likely to be asked to record their statements.

The development comes days after the cops had asked for the details of SSR’s contract with Yashraj Films. The MS Dhoni actor had starred in Shuddh Desi Romance and Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, which were backed by the banner. He was supposed to team up with YRF for Paani, directed by Kapur, but the movie was on hold due to creative differences between the Mr India helmer and the production house.

SSR, who hailed from Patna, made an impact in the TV industry before entering Bollywood with the sleeper hit Kai Po Che. He impressed fans with his performances in PK and Shuddh Desi Romance, consolidating his standing in the industry. It was, however, MS Dhoni that established him as a bankable star. Chhichore was his last theatrical release before his death. Drive, backed by Karan Johar, released directly on Netflix. His last film Dil Bechara is slated to release on Disney+ Hotstar on July 24.
