Trump briefs Saudi Arabia’s King Salman on US strikes in Syria

Jeddah, Apr 8: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman was briefed Saturday by US President Donald Trump about American military strikes on a Syrian airbase the day before, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

saudiIn a phone conversation, King Salman congratulated Trump on his courageous decision to carry out the strike in Syria, which the king said was in the interest of the region and the world.

The US struck the airbase on Friday saying it had been used in what is now widely believed to be a chemical attack by Bashar Assad against his own people.

In the call, King Salman and Trump also discussed relations between the two countries as well as the latest regional and global developments.

Ankara, Apr 2: Saudi Arabia on Thursday declared a 24-hour lockdown in all parts of Makkah and Medina cities as part of measures to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

"The 24-hour curfew will be imposed in all parts of the cities of Makkah and Medina, with a ban on entry and exit from both cities," the Saudi Interior Ministry said on Twitter.

The lockdown starts from Thursday “until further notice.”

All commercial activities inside the residential neighborhoods of the two cities were also prohibited, except for pharmacies, food products stores, gas stations and banking services, the ministry said.

After first appearing in Wuhan, China last December, the virus has spread to at least 180 countries and regions, according to U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.

Its data shows the number of confirmed cases worldwide have surpassed 962,900, with the death toll over 49,100 and more than 202,700 recoveries.

Cairo, Mar 16: Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman said G20 summit will work to combat coronavirus and coordinate efforts to ease its economic burdens, state news agency SPA said on Sunday.

In a phone call with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Salman discussed international efforts to fight the flu-like disease, saying the next G20 summit, which will be hosted by the Kingdom, will work on finding medical solutions, SPA added.

The G20 Summit is an annual gathering of representatives of the world's largest economies.
