Tulu Koota Kuwait hosts family get-together, sports event

Kuwait: Tulu Koota Kuwait organised its Family Picnic and Sports Event on Friday, March 15, 2019, at the Mishref Garden in Kuwait. The Family Picnic started with a huge crowd assembled in anticipation of a fun filled day.

The event began with the welcome note by the hosts MrManoj Shetty and Renita Mascarenhas followed by National anthem of Kuwait and India. The inauguration of the Family Picnic was a unique attraction by the presence of special guest of honor and invitee, International Kabaddi Player, Eklayva award winner, and Karnataka Kabaddi team captain Mr. Sukesh Hegde. Dr. S.M.Hyther Ali, Chairman of TVS Group, Mr. John Simon, Group Manager of Corporate Sales and Event Marketing, Al Mulla Exchange, were the chief guests of this opening ceremony.

The President of TKK, Mr. Ramesh S Bhandary welcomed the distinguished guests, Representatives of Twenty South Canara Associations and all the TKK members and families to this great day and briefed the reason behind conducting picnic and sports event and asked everyone to participate in all the games with sportsman spirit and create festive mood.

Representatives of Twenty South Canara Associations, Tulu Koota Kuwait past 20 years Presidents, Management Committee, All Committee members and children with 5 different flags participated in this beautiful opening ceremony. The inauguration included traditional way of breaking the coconut by Sports Secretary Mr. Roshan Quadras. TKK First Lady Ms. Anitha Ramesh Bhandary lead the sports march holding the torch, followed by Sports Parade Band of energetic school children from Kuwait Indian School Abbasiya, Kuwait.

The guest of honor Mr. Sukesh Hegde was felicitated with shawl and memento for his great achievements in the field of Kabaddi sports and making Tuluva people proud at the international level. In his speech he thanked Tulu Koota Kuwait for inviting him as special guest for this Family Picnic and making him part of their memorable event. He congratulated Tulu Koota Kuwait for their tremendous work in the past 20 years in helping the poor, needy people back in Tulunadu and wished all the success in their future events and charity works.

As TKK is celebrating its 20th year of Unity Through Language, the president and the committee members released TKK song symbolically which was written by Mr.TarendraShettigar, Composed by Mr.SharathUcchila and sung by play back singers Aira Acharya, Chandrakanth Acharya and Dr.AbhishekKodakkal.

After the inauguration ceremony, it was time for various thrilling games for all age groups. The kids of 0-2-year age group played the Lucky Winner game, 2-4-year kids played Sponge water and ball-bucket game. The children of age 4-6 years played balancing the biscuit and aiming the target. The children aged 6-9 years competed in basketball and cycle tyre race. Children from 9-12 years played Lagori and Sack Run race. Children age group 12 to 15 years competed in balance run and bowling game. Ladies enjoyed themselves competing in breaking the pot, penalty shootout and shot put. while Men showed themselves capable in playing Kutti Donne, Shot put and breaking the Pot. In addition to this couples enjoyed playing and competing each other in balancing the orange and MuddinaMoote games. Senior citizens also showcased their playing skills in aiming the target game.

Team games such as Kabbadi, Throwball, Volleyball, and Tug of War were played with full enthusiasm and sporting spirit. Team Kudla Bulls bagged the winner’s trophy and Team United Eagles were runner-up in Kabbadi. In Volleyball United Eagles attained the winner’s trophy and MFC(B) were runner-up. In Throwball Kuwait Friends won the first place and Kudla Friends were runner-up. In Tug of war Men team MFC bagged the winner’s Trophy and team SWAK bagged runner up. Tug of war ladies won by team SWAK and real fighters were emerged as runner up.

Throughout the day Mishref Garden grounds, Kuwait witnessed huge crowd of Tulunadu people enjoying and participating in different games. Oriental Restaurant provided delicious Mangalorean lunch, Sounds and lights support provided by Anand, while Mr. Alban Dsouza captured the moments in his camera.

Abu Dhabi: Yogish Prabhu K is the newly elected president of Abu Dhabi’s prestigious India Social & Cultural Centre (ISC) and he will serve for the period 2020-2021. ISC’s annual general body meeting and Election for 2020 were held on Thursday, February 27 and the election results of the election were announced during the early hours of Friday, February 28th morning.

In the keenly contested election, Yogish Prabhu emerged victorious. Humble origin and hailing from a small town of Karkala from Udupi district of Karnataka state has never deterred him from setting challenging goals. He belongs to a well-known Gouda Saraswat Brahmin family of K.V.Prabhu Coconut oil mill in Karkala. He is the eldest son of Late Rtn. Krishna Prabhu and Rtn. Bharati Prabhu.  His father and grandfather were freedom fighters who left a profound impression on him and their ideology “serving people is like worshiping God” (Jana seveye Janardhana seve) inspired and guided his life ever since. Prabhu has been a privilege member of ISC since 2003 and has been actively involved in ISC activities throughout. His relationship with ISC spans over 2 decades during which he has immensely contributed in many ways to ISC and the Indian community at large. A banker by profession, Yogish Prabhu is currently working as Vice President, Group Finance & Treasury, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB).

With some new initiatives in his mind, Prabhu wants to creatively improve the quality of ISC’s services, its humanitarian impact as well as the diversity of its membership. His intentions are always to help everyone irrespective of caste, creed, religion, language or status. As a new elected President of ISC, Prabhu’s main objective is to strategically plan and implement his vision through his ABC 5 Year Plan i.e.,

A-    Accountability & Transparency,

B-    Build a Sound Financial Plan and

C-    Compassion & Affection for the needy

so that ISC is recognized not just in UAE, but worldwide as a mascot of the great Indian community.

Prabhu thinks “as individuals, we can do only so much but with the support of Elected ISC Committee members and all the ISC members together, there is no limit to what we can achieve, and in the process, we can truly transform the ISC”. He proudly says, “I have a strong treasury management experience in ISC as well as in the bank which we need now more than ever”.

With his dynamic leadership, sheer dedication and ambition, ISC will definitely be scaling new heights of glory and prestige in Abu Dhabi and beyond. His humble nature, leadership qualities coupled with his rich administrative experience will surely help boost ISC’s popularity and meet its challenging goals and can serve people in a better way and contribute to the Indian community at large.

Yogish Prabhu has been married for 28years. His wife Chethana Prabhu Kasaragod too has been equally active in ISC and continuously supporting and participating in various sports, entertainment and literary committees throughout these years. She became ISC Women’s Forum Convener in 2016-2017. Their daughter, Aarti Prabhu is an IT Engineer from NITK Suratkal, working in Bangalore. Son, Ajith Prabhu finished his Masters in Mechanical Engineering and Management in Industrial Design in Queens University, Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK and at present doing his internship there. Both Aarti and Ajith are alumni of Abu Dhabi Indian School and both have represented National level CBSE Badminton meet. Also, Aarti was a Gold medalist in the school for scoring 100 in Mathematics in SSLC.

Following are few of his contributions and achievements:

•          Hon. Asst. Treasurer of ISC for consecutive years from 2005 till 2007

•          Hon. Treasurer of ISC in 2011.

•          Member of Finance Committee of ISC new infrastructure and premises from approval till completion.

•          In 2016, initiated the participation of ISC members as officials for International Yoga Day organized by Indian Embassy

•          In 2017, initiated the participation of children as officials to help the organizers so that children could learn their social responsibility and become good citizens.

•          In 2012, initiated ladies throw ball tournament in ISC and now it is extended to men too.

•          Member of IPEF since its inception in 2014. Also served as its Governing board member in the same year.

•          Founder member of ‘UAE GSB group’ since its formation in 2004

•          Committee member of ‘Gandhi Sahitya Vedi’ Abu Dhabi

•                    Treasurer of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha

•          Head of Finance and member of other committees of ‘World Tulu Convention’ held in Dubai - 2018

Riyadh: On the occasion of 71st Republic Day of India, Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) conducted BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN on the 17th Jan 2020 at KING SAUD Universities King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh. 

This is one of KWARs Prestigious Humanitarian EVENT every year, as we are indebted to serve the society for a Great Cause.

The campaign began at 08:30 am with a theme of Republic Day Celebrations and went on till 3:30 pm. Irrespective of Friday being a weekend and holiday people came in good numbers to donate Blood. The Hospital Staff, The Doctors and the Blood Bank Technicians and others at King Khalid University Hospital were more than happy to serve all those who have participated in this campaign.

KWAR Thanks all the Hospital Staff especially Mr. Salman Baqsh for his introduction of KWAR to Blood Bank and all the arrangements for this campaign, without his support this could not been done. Dr. Zafar Mahmoud for his wonderful support during the campaign and Mr. Abdullah Al Saman for his outstanding Hospitality throughout the campaign. KWAR also thanks all the donors who came all the way voluntarily for this Great Humanitarian Cause. As a token of gesture KWAR awarded Certificate of Appreciation to all the participants.

And KWAR would like to thank specially Mr. Nasir, Representative of Blood Helpline Karnataka, who encouraged many donors and made them to actively participate and donate blood for this noble cause.

KWAR’s core activities was on display on the screen, with most of the Committee members were present at the venue to serve the donors. KWAR thanks all the members, the Executive committee and all those who took their valuable time to organize this event successfully and thank all our well-wishers who supported us for the BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN. We in KWAR wish every Donor and the participants a healthy life ahead, and we need everyone's active participation in all our Future events.

Dubai, Aug 7: One may call it good luck, but for two Indian expats it was God who prevented them at the last minute from boarding the Air India Express plane that crashed in Kerala, killing at least 18 people on board.

According to India's Civil Aviation Ministry, the Boeing 737 aircraft on a flight from Dubai to Kozhikode overshot the runway at Kozhikode airport on Friday evening. There were 184 passengers including 10 infants, 2 pilots and four cabin crew onboard the aircraft.

Noufal Moin Vetten, an Ajman resident working as an office boy in a Sharjah school, was booked to travel on the flight and had checked in as per schedule.

Recounting his miraculous escape, Vetten, a resident of Malappuram, Thirunavaya, whose visa was cancelled a week ago, told Gulf News: “I was handed my boarding pass, but when I reached immigration, they told me I had to pay a fine of Dh 1,000 (Rs 20,430) for overstay. I had only Dh 500 (Rs10,215) with me.

"I called my school PRO and he told me to come back. He said they would follow protocols and pay the fines before sending me,“ he said.

Vetten was disappointed and called his family to let them know.

“When I heard about the crash, I was saddened for all the passengers. But I'm so relieved I missed it. God has been really merciful,” said Vetten.

Afsal Parrakodan, a resident of Abu Dhabi, had a similar stroke of luck.

“My work visa was cancelled about a week ago. After getting my boarding pass, I was told I had to pay a fine of Dh1,000 at the immigration counter, but I had only Dh500 on me.”

“I was very keen to board the flight and be with my family. So I called a friend who brought me the additional Dh500, but by then, my baggage had been offloaded and the flight's doors were closed,” said Parrakodan.

“I was feeling very sad and called my mother to tell her I had missed the flight. But a few hours later, when I learnt of the crash, I couldn’t help but feel relieved and thankful to God for saving my life,“ said an overwhelmed Parrakodan who plans to fly back next week.
