Two drown in different streams in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Aug 18: Two persons have been feared drowned in different streams in Paduperar in Bajpe police station limits on the outskirts of the city on Thursday.

Chandrahas Shetty, 53, a farmer, had reportedly gone to Dambegundi stream near his farmland to retrieve coconuts from the stream. He reportedly slipped and was carried away. A missing complaint has been filed.

Diwakar, 32, a labourer, was among residents staying near Parakattu stream, which is upstream of Dambegundi stream. He and others regularly crossed the stream for work. On Thursday evening, while others managed to cross, he was reportedly carried away. After searching for a while, his family filed a complaint with the Bajpe police on Friday morning.

The police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel are searching for both men along the stream that flow down to join the Nandini in Pavanje.

Belagavi, Jan 16: Six Poachers were arrested in two different cases at Gollahalli forest range in Kittur section in the district on Thursday.

The arrested were identified as Bharmesh alias Bharmappa Hanumant Bhajantri, Mallesh Hanumant Bhajantri residents of Budanakatti in Bailahongal Taluk.

Another alleged accused Yuvraj Basappa Bhajantri managed to escape.

Mandya, Jul 6: With a journalist from Srirangapatna testing positive for Covid-19, the Mandya District Journalists Association was sealed as a precautionary measure.

Association President K C Manjunath said on Monday that as the reporter has tested positive for Covid-19, it was voluntarily decided to seal down the premises for another month.
