Two held on charge of moral policing

Karunagapally , Feb 18: Two men were arrested by the Ochira police on Friday on charge of attacking a young couple on the Azheekkal beach, near Karunagapally, on Valentine’s Day.

moral policingThe couple had on Friday morning lodged a complaint with City Police Commissioner S. Satheesh Bino.

The Ochira police took six men into custody in connection with the incident.

The couple identified two among them. The remaining four were let off. Mr. Bino said that as per the complaint of the couple, three more men are involved in the incident. The arrested duo was identified as Abilash and Biju.

Mr. Bino said they were arrested under Indian Penal Code Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-C (capturing the image of a woman engaging in a private act in circumstances where she would usually have the expectation of not being observed either by the perpetrator or by any other person at the behest of the perpetrator) 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means).

The police said the male victim of the incident was a native of Palakkad and a staff on the Amritapuri campus of Amrita University. The woman hailed from Sooranad.

They alleged that they were assaulted on the beach and the incident was videographed. The clippings were later circulated on social media by the culprits.

Kalaburagi, Jul 2: Hoteliers in Kalaburagi have claimed that their business is hit due to night curfew timings in the state.

The night curfew in the state has been imposed from 8 pm to 5 am.

Speaking to news agency, Sudarshan, a hotelier said, "Peak business hour is 7-10 pm but now we close by 8 pm. There is almost no business. We are unable to pay our workers. The government should think about it".

"We haven't received any benefit from the government so far. If we are in trouble how will we help our workers? Relaxation should be given," he added.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government on Tuesday announced a complete lockdown on Sundays till August 2.

So far, Karnataka has reported 15,242 COVID-19 cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Mandya, Apr 3: Following the lock down in the country, people habit ventured into Liquor bottles worth several lakhs of rupees have been stolen at two places in the district.

Miscreants targeted a wine store at Chikka Mandya on the outskirts of the town in the early hours and also made away with the stock from a wine store near Hadly Circle in Malavalli town late night on Thursday. The incidents came to light on Friday.

A window was broken open at Chikka Mandya store and a wall was drilled at Malavalli store to take away the cartons, the police said.

Bengaluru, April 3: Central Crime Branch (CCB) Bengaluru has arrested two persons for allegedly possessing illicit liquor.

The probe team also allegedly seized bottles worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from their possession on Thursday.

A case has been registered against the accused and investigation into the matter is underway, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police informed news agency.
