Bantwal, Apr 25: Mohammed Riyaz Farangipete, who had filed nomination papers for May 12 Karnataka assembly polls from Bantwal constancy as the candidate of Social Democratic Party of India, has decided to withdraw from the fray.
Mr Farangipete had grabbed attention of the people through his fiery and provocative speeches that went viral on social media. He had filed nomination papers last Friday after a procession.
On his official but unverified Facebook account, Mr Farangipete wrote that he would withdraw nomination papers as per the decision of his party.
“Such a decision was inevitable to defeat the communalism and save democracy,” he claimed while exhorting his supporters, well-wishers, friends and fans to honour the decision of his party.
He also told media persons that there are chances of secular votes getting divided in the constituency if SDPI contests the polls. “Division of secular votes may benefit the communal forces,” he said.
It could be recalled here that Mr Farangipete in his speeches had accused the Congress of fooling Muslims by claiming that secular votes would get divided if they vote for SDPI candidates. He also had claimed that people of Bantwal would bring an end to Ramanath Rai’s reign and send SDPI candidate to the Assembly.
