UAE Health ministry issues warning against 4 medicines

Dubai, Sept 15: The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention is alerting consumers and healthcare professionals against the use of four pharmaceutical products for the treatment of neurological, respiratory and underactive thyroid disease due to possible microbial contamination and contagious infection.

A warning against homeopathic drug products Neuroveen, a natural relief of neuralgia nerve pain; Respitrol for safe, temporary relief of chest tightness, shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing; Thyroveev, a homeopathic remedy for underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism; and Compulsin, a natural relief of obsessive thoughts and compulsive urges, was issued by Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Under-Secretary for Public Health Policy and Licensing of the Ministry of Health and Prevention and Chairman for Supreme Pharmacovigilance Committee, to medical zones, public and private hospitals, doctors and pharmacists.

Hellolife, Inc. issued a voluntary worldwide recall of Neuroveen, Respitrol, Thyroveev and Compulsin due to possible microbial contamination with the knowledge of and in cooperation with the United States, US, Food and Drug Administration, FDA.

The circular said these products are distributed worldwide via wholesale, retail and online sales and the safety alert was motivated according to a warning letter from the US FDA and the manufacturer Hellolife.

The manufacturer has said that the administration or use of products with microbial contamination could potentially result in increased infections that may require medical intervention, and could result in infections that could be life-threatening to certain individuals.

The ministry warned members of the public not to purchase any unregistered pharmaceutical products or food additives from bogus pharmacies on the internet and social media for their own safety.

Sharjah, May 28: The Ministry of Interior has warned the public against visiting wadis during bad weather conditions, including rainy seasons, to avoid the risk of getting caught in flash floods that could endanger their lives.

A video posted on its official Instagram account depicted several such incidents involving cars being swept away by floods.

The warning comes after four people were found dead this week in Sharjah's Wadi Al Helo, an area hit by floods during heavy rains that lashed the emirate, authorities said.

The National Search and Rescue Centre (NSRC) found the bodies as it conducted an operation to look for seven people who were reported missing amid the unstable weather conditions.

In a separate incident yesterday, 20 passengers of a bus that got stuck in Wadi Hatta's Umm Al Nosor area in Dubai were also rescued by police after their vehicle was swept away by floods.

The ministry urged the public to follow the directives issued for their own safety.

New Delhi, Aug 9: Indian on Sunday achieved a grim milestone after recording the highest single-day spike of 64,399 coronavirus cases, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

As many as 861 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative toll to 43,379.

With the new cases, the country's coronavirus count has reached 21,53,011 including 6,28,747 active cases and 14,80,885 cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra has 1,47,355 active coronavirus cases, the highest in the country.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 7,19,364 samples were tested on August 8 while over 2.41 crores samples so far have been tested in the country.

Geneva, Jun 22: The global count of coronavirus cases has surpassed 8.7 million, with 183,020 new cases recorded on Sunday, the World Health Organisation said in its daily situation report.

Over the last 24 hours, 4,743 people died from COVID-19 worldwide, taking the death toll to 461,715 fatalities, according to the report.

The cumulative global toll of confirmed cases has now reached 8,708,008, as stated in the report.

The WHO Regional Director for Europe, Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, shared that Europe accounts for 31 per cent of COVID-19 cases and 43 per cent of COVID-19 deaths globally.

Dr Kluge highlighted that several countries continue to face increasing disease incidence and that "preparing for the autumn is a priority now at the WHO Regional Office for Europe"

The United States continues to be worst affected by the contagion with the highest count of cases and fatalities -- 2.2 million and 118,895, respectively.

The novel coronavirus was declared a pandemic by WHO on March 11.
