Considered as the hospital of tomorrow, the majestic 75,000 sqmNMC Royal Hospital will be the first of its kind in the private sector to offer continuum of care for its patients besides providing world-class emergency, critical and acute cardiovascular care.

His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak al Nahayan, the Honourable Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development inaugurated the NMC Royal Hospital at a grand event attended by over 800 dignitaries, medical professionals and media. The delegates were given a tour of the path-breaking facility which encompasses an umbrella ofmedical care specializations. On the occasion, Sheikh Nahayan said “The NMC Royal Hospital is the first hospital to be completed on the land awarded by the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi and Health Authority of Abu Dhabi in accordance with the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 plan. DrShetty’s vision, indefatigable spirit and enthusiasm have made him an active partner in the progress of the United Arab Emirates and an architect contributing to building its infrastructure.”

Dr B R Shetty, Executive Vice Chairman & CEO of NMC Healthcare, said: “The opening of the hospital brings long-awaited state-of-the-art medical services, healthcare facilities and emergency care to the residents of Abu Dhabi and the UAE at large.”

With built in observation unit, operation theatre and manned by emergency specialists with quick access to radiology, the emergency department at NMC Royal Hospital is all set to raise the standard of care in the management of acute emergencies. Besides stroke and cardiac emergencies, the observation unit at NMC Royal Hospital emergency department will also cover treatment for diabetic emergencies, hypertension concerns and uncomplicated respiratory infections with the goals of reducing unnecessary hospitalizations, improving patient outcomes and decreasing healthcare costs.

On the backdrop of its key acquisitions, NMC healthcare has created an environment in which the newly acquired companies share their operational know-how and best-in-class practices. This integrated network is witnessed in NMC Royal Hospital where the continuum of care is being established for patients via primary, secondary and tertiary care by NMC, long term acute care expertise from Provita and the homecare services knowledge from Americare. This is a model that will serve as a platform for the company’s further expansion into the GCC.

As the largest private healthcare provider in the country with a combined strength of 8000 employees and 1000 doctors, NMC Healthcare is in a unique position to leverage its human capital for new projects such as the NMC Royal Hospital.Along similar lines, NMC’s recent acquisition of Europe’s leading fertility services provider Eugin and a majority stake in the GCC reproductive services leaderFakih IVF is providing NMC Royal Hospital the latest technological know-how to set up a full-fledged In Vitro Fertilisation clinic and advanced capabilities for genetic disorders screening.

NMC Royal Hospital is setting up a Nephrology unit that will, besides dialysis, pioneer the private sector’s kidney transplant programs. The hospital’s oncology services will be comprehensive so as to provide the complete spectrum of services including medical, surgical and radiation oncology.

In addition to emergency care and critical care, key amongst the various other specialties being offered will include neurosciences, cardiac sciences, gastroenterology, hepatology, maternal & child health.
Dr Shetty added: “NMC Royal Hospital is equipped with the most advanced technology, and its medical staff are trained in best global healthcare practices delivering quality healthcare.”

NMC Royal Hospital’scutting edge technology includes a fully automated laboratory track system that can process up to 25,000 samples a dayand over 200 different tests can be done in a single workflow. This computerized robotic system with minimal or no human intervention, significantly reduces turnaround times for doctors and patients and more importantly reduces error rates and risks of cross contamination. NMC Royal Hospital’s radiology unit houses a 3 Tesla MRI Unit, whose magnetic field is twice the strength of many standard MRI units, making way for improved imaging and swifter diagnoses – a definitive benefit to neurosurgeons.

The intelligent hybrid operating theatre provides crucial intra-operative radiological guidance during surgeries which helps in significant improvement in cardiac and neurosurgical outcomes and rapid recovery rates for patients.

The hospital’s paediatric intensive care unit is manned by a team of specialist child intensivists who will be on board 24-hours-a-day to assess and treat patients within moments of arrival. The paediatric department also offers services in the areas of growth hormone disorders, learning disabilities, ADHD and special needs children.

The new hospital, located inKhalifa City, is proximate to the residents of Khalifa City, Al Raha, Mohammed bin Zayed City, Masdar City, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Shahama and Yas Island, all suburbs which, according to the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, are expected to house around one-fifth of the emirate’s total population by 2030.

Set up as a greenfield project from the funds accrued via the listing of the company on the London Stock Exchange, the NMC Royal Hospital is a classic example of how NMC is bringing back the funds generated overseas to invest back in the home country.

“As the population of the capital moves further in to mainland Abu Dhabi, NMC Royal Hospital is the answer forthe residents’ need for a local hospital here,” said Dr B R Shetty, “We are committed to bring in international standards in healthcare to the residents of our country”

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the Rulers, the regulators and my international investors for always providing their invaluable support and helping to take UAE healthcare to the next level” concluded Dr B R Shetty.
