Udupi: Tiger dancer killed, five others injured as tempo topples in overtake bid

Udupi, Sept 5: A tiger dance artiste lost his life and five others suffered injuries, when a tempo carrying them met with an accident at Nejar Babbuswamy Bhajan Mandal near Santhekatte in Udupi yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Sumanth,22, a resident of Padubidri. Tempo driver Vishal and tiger dancers Prashanth, Yatesh, Sudhakar and Sudhir were injured in the accident. All the injured were treated at KMC Manipal.

Nejar Navneeth Friends troupe, on the occasion of Ganapathi immersion at Santhakatte Sarvajanika Ganeshothsav, had danced at the shops at Santhakatte and were on their way to Kelarkalabettu.

When the Tempo driver tried to overtake a motorbike, he lost control and toppled. Sumanth was seriously injured and died on the way to hospital.

A case has been registered at Malpe police station in this regard.

Mangaluru, Aug 1: A teenage boy, who was critically injured in a road accident at Manchi village in Bantwal taluk, breathed his last at a private hospital in the city today.

The victim has been identified as Mohammad Unais (17), a resident of Bolanthoor village.  

The mishap occurred yesterday (July 31) at around 6 p.m. when Unais was riding a motorbike.

In his bid to overtake a speeding lorry near the Manchi mosque, the boy lost control over his motorbike, which first rammed into an auto-rickshaw and then collided with the same lorry. 

The impact was such that the boy was thrown onto the road. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru. 

He breathed his last early today without responding to any treatment. 

A case has been registered at jurisdictional Melkar Traffic Police Station and investigations are on.

Mangaluru, Jun 9: Two days after he went missing under mysterious circumstances, a 33-year-old man was today found dead on the banks of Netravati river at Ullal Hoige on the outskirts of the city.

The deceased has been identified as Chethan Acharya. A missing case was registered on Tuesday morning at Ullal police station.

It is suspected that Chetan might have committed suicide due to depression. 

The missing case was later converted into the case of unnatural death. Investigations are on.

Mangaluru, Jan 18: The Dakshina Kannada District Karavali Utsava Samiti has chosen senior Journalist and Assistant Editor on Udayavani Daily Manohar Prasad for the Karavali Gaurava Prashasti 2019-20.

The award will be presented to Manohar Prasad in recognition of his contribution in the field of Journalism.

He will be given the award during the valedictory of the Karavali Utsav at Panambur beach on January 19.
