Urmila, Priya Dutt file nominations in Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 8: Mumbai Congress chief Milind Deora, party candidates Urmila Matondkar and Priya Dutt, and Shiv Sena's Arvind Sawant filed their nominations on Monday for the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra.

Matondkar, who rode a motorcycle to file her papers, is in fray from Mumbai North seat, where she is pitted against BJP's Gopal Shetty.

Priya Dutt was accompanied by her brother, actor Sanjay Dutt while filing her papers for the Mumbai North Central seat, where she faces BJP's Poonam Mahajan.

Former city Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam filed his papers from Mumbai North West seat, where he is locked in a battle with Shiv Sena's Gajanan Kirtikar.

Deora and Sawant are in fray from Mumbai South seat.

Sawant was accompanied by BJP leader Raj Purohit while filing his nomination papers.

Sena leader Rahul Shewale also filed his nomination from Mumbai South Central seat, where he will face Congress' Eknath Gaikwad.

Shewale was flanked by Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray when he reached the election office to file his papers.

The last date to withdraw nominations for the fourth phase is April 11. Polling is scheduled on April 29.

Lok Sabha elections to 48 seats in the state will be held in four phases on April 11, 18, 23 and 29.

In the first phase, polling will be held across seven seats where 116 candidates in fray.

In the second phase, 179 candidates will contest from 10 Lok Sabha seats.

As many as 393 candidates are in fray for the third phase of polling in 14 parliamentary constituencies of the state.

In the fourth phase, polling will be held in 17 constituencies, including those in Mumbai.

New Delhi, May 28: With 6,566 more coronavirus cases and 194 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, India's COVID-19 tally reached 1,58,333 on Thursday, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Affairs.

The number of active coronavirus cases stands at 86,110, while 67,692 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, it said. The death toll due to the infection has reached 4,531 in the country.

Maharashtra is the worst affected state with 56,948 cases. Tamil Nadu has recorded as many as 18,545 cases while Gujarat and Delhi have recorded 15,195 and 15,257 coronavirus cases respectively.

Brasilia, Jul 14: Brazil has reported new 20,286 coronavirus cases in last 24 hours taking the country's total to 1.8 million, Sputnik reported citing the health ministry.

The country's death toll has increased by 733 in the same period of time. The death toll from the infection has touched 72,833.

Over 1.1 million people have recovered from COVID-19 in Brazil since the start of the epidemic in the country, according to the health ministry.

Brazil has the second-highest coronavirus death toll, it is surpassed only by the United States.

Geneva, Jun 22: The global count of coronavirus cases has surpassed 8.7 million, with 183,020 new cases recorded on Sunday, the World Health Organisation said in its daily situation report.

Over the last 24 hours, 4,743 people died from COVID-19 worldwide, taking the death toll to 461,715 fatalities, according to the report.

The cumulative global toll of confirmed cases has now reached 8,708,008, as stated in the report.

The WHO Regional Director for Europe, Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, shared that Europe accounts for 31 per cent of COVID-19 cases and 43 per cent of COVID-19 deaths globally.

Dr Kluge highlighted that several countries continue to face increasing disease incidence and that "preparing for the autumn is a priority now at the WHO Regional Office for Europe"

The United States continues to be worst affected by the contagion with the highest count of cases and fatalities -- 2.2 million and 118,895, respectively.

The novel coronavirus was declared a pandemic by WHO on March 11.
