VHP's plea against Kamal Haasan’s ‘Uttama Villain’ dismissed

New Delhi, Apr 28: A petition by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) seeking a stay on the release of superstar Kamal Haasan's Tamil film Uttama Villain, has been dismissed by the Madras High Court on Monday.

The VHP had also sought deletion of a song about Lord Vishnu which was also dismissed.

Kamal Haasan Pointing out that there was no merit in the plea, Justice T. Raja dismissed the writ petition.

The VHP had condemned Kamal Haasan and demanded a ban on the film.

It also said that if the film was released in cinemas on Friday, the whole Hindu community will be put to shame.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has sought a ban on the upcoming Kamal Hassan Tamil flick "Uttama Villain", claiming it would offend the religious sensibilities of Hindus.

In a petition filed with city police, VHP city organiser Satyamurthy said the incarnations of Lord Vishnu has been criticised in the movie.

In a song that begins as "Udirathin Kathai," in Tamil folk style "Villupattu", conversations between Vishnu devotee Prahalada and his father Hiranyakashipu has ‘disparaging' remarks against Lord Vishnu, he said.

In their statement to the commissioner of police on Monday, the group alleged that the song ‘Iraniyan Nadagam', about the disparaged conversation between Prahalad and Hiranyakashipu, will hurt the sentiments of Hindus.

"The lyrics of the song will upset followers of Lord Vishnu. It belittles the conversation between Prahalad and Hiranyakashipu. Hence, we demand a ban on the film," K.L Sathiyamoorthy, member of VHP said.

Directed by Ramesh Aravind, the movie is about an 8th century theatre artist and a modern-day superstar.

Actor Rajinikanth defends Govt on CAA, says it won't affect Indian Muslims

Chennai, Feb 5: The popular cine actor Rajinikanth has defended the Union Government on the Citizenship Amendment Act, saying it will not affect the Indian Muslims.

In a brief interaction with reporters this morning in Chennai, the matinee idol said if the Muslims are affected by the CAA, he would be at the forefront in their defence. He asked how will the legislation affect the Indian Muslims when they chose to stay back in the country to make it their motherland. Mr Rajinikanth also supported the National Population Register saying it has been in force even in the past.

On the NRC, Mr Rajinikanth said the Government has already made it clear that its nationwide rollout has not been even discussed so far. Mr Rajinikanth is nourishing political ambitions and has made it clear that he would plunge into politics ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections in the state which is due in 2021.

Singer S P Balasubrahmanyam tests positive for COVID-19

New Delhi, Aug 5: Playback singer S P Balasubrahmanyam on Wednesday confirmed testing positive for COVID-19 with 'mild' symptoms.

The 74-year-old musician shared the information through a video message posted on his official Facebook page.

In the video, the singer detailed about having a little "discomfort" for two days, stating he had chest congestion along with cold and on-off fever, which led him to get tested for the virus.

However, he also mentioned that he could have stayed at home in self-quarantine, as advised, but did not want to put his family in danger, and hence got admitted by his own choice, to recover quickly.

"I am in good hand, I am in good health. Nobody has to worry about this. The fever has subsided, and in two days I'll be discharged and I'll be home. Thanks for the concern," he said in the video message.

COVID-19 is a great equalizer: Madonna from her bathtub

Los Angeles, Mar 24: In a bizarre video shot from her rose petal filled bathtub, pop star Madonna has called the coronavirus pandemic "a great equaliser".

The music icon said the virus doesn't discriminate between rich and poor.

That's the thing about COVID-1. It doesn't care about how rich you are, how famous you are, how funny you are, how smart you are, where you live, how old you are, what amazing stories you can tell.

It's the great equaliser and what's terrible about it is what's great about it. What's terrible about it is that it's made us all equal in many ways, and what's wonderful about is, is that it's made us all equal in many ways, Madonna said in the video while having a milky bath in tub full of roses.

The 61-year-old singer, who had to cancel two of her concerts in Paris due to coronavirus outbreak, also referenced her 1995 song Human Nature in the video saying we are all going down together .

According to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker, the death toll from the virus globally has risen to 14,641 with 336,000 cases reported in 173 countries and territories.
