Mangaluru, Aug 16: The police and other security agencies across the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada, especially in Mangaluru city, stepped up their vigil in the reported background of a high alert issued by Central intelligence agencies on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil has asked fishermen to immediately alert the police control room on 100 if they find any boat or vessel moving suspiciously in the Sea.
Meanwhile, security agencies conducted special checks, even with dog squads, at vital installations in the city, including IT companies, major hospitals and other places. Senior district officials said there was no specific input; but a general intelligence alert issued by Central agencies.
Meanwhile, sleuths of Kadri police station have taken eight people were taken into custody. It is said they were using a car with the “National Crime Investigation Bureau and Govt of India” nameplate on it. The cops also seized the car. It is suspected that the accused were extorting money using fake nameplate on their car.
