Vikas Khanna to participate in WGSHA annual day

Manipal, February 2: World renowned chef and the host of Master Chef India-2, Vikas Khanna, will be in Manipal for two days on an invitation from Manipal University Chancellor Ramdas M. Pai, according to a press release issued by the university.

An alumnus of Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA), Mr. Khanna will take part in the 26th Annual Day celebrations of the college on Friday.

“It is a matter of joy and pride for the college to have Vikas, a world renowned chef, with us, particularly this year, as our college is celebrating its silver jubilee,” said Parvadhavardhini Gopalakrishnan, principal of the college.

The celebrity chef would be honoured with “ITC Chairman's Distinguished Alumnus Award”. Mr. Khanna would participate in an interactive session with students of WGHSHA here on February 4.

Mr. Khanna, who grew up in Amritsar, graduated from the 6th Course of WGSHA in 1991. Thereafter, he trained in hotel chains like Taj, Oberoi, and Leela. He later went to U.S. to study at the Culinary Institute of America and Le Cordon Bleu, Paris.

Mr. Khanna has worked with the most celebrated chefs in New York and the world, and among his long list of awards and accolades is Michelin Guide Starred Chef and also the recipient of Access to Freedom Award from SATH (The Society for Accessible Travel and Hospitality).

Mr. Khanna has also worked in television serials such as Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen. He is the founder of “Vikas Khanna Hospitality Group” which looks after all his creative and business affairs.

Udupi, June 21: A graduation student, who had attempted suicide two weeks ago under depression following the postponement of examinations due to covid-19, breathed his last at a private hospital yesterday. 

The deceased has been identified as Shakuntala, a final year degree student of First Grade College, Muniyal. She was a resident of Mathibettu near Vagranga in Hebri taluk. 

According to sources, she had studied hard to clear the examinations. The postponement of examinations led her to depression.  

She consumed poison at her house on June 8. She was immediately rushed to Manipal hospital where she breathed her last on June 20. A case has been registered in Hebri Police Station.

Mangaluru, May 4: In order to protect the frontline coronavirus fighters from the pathogen, students at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has developed face shields that will help the front-line healthcare workers.

Mr Johnson Tellis - Chief Innovation Officer, Mr Gautham Nayak - Design Engineer and DreamWorks Makerspacerun by determined students, supported by Sahyadri Start-up ecosystem, at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has headed the team.

The team took the initiative along with other maker communities in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and the likes, with a pledge to produce and deliver 1 Million face shields across India. In three weeks, the team has contributed to the cause and delivered more than3500 face shields and a ventilator splitter for the Dakshina Kannada and Shimoga region.
