Vishwa Tulu Ayono 2016: UAE committee formed

Dubai: The first ever meeting on the proposed ‘Vishwa Tulu Ayono 2016’ was held at Fortune Plaza Hotel Auditorium today the 12th November, 2016 at 5 pm under the leadership of the elected Honorary President of Overseas Wing, Sarvotham Shetty who invited various Tuluva leaders of UAE to come together in preparing for the event which is proposed in Badiadka, Kasaragod during December 9th to 13th, 2016.

Vinay Naik opened up the meet welcoming the invited Tuluva leaders from various Communities and briefing on the programme.  He highlighted the venue and the richness of the place where this three day’s ‘Ayono’ or the so called Tuluva Conference is going to take place viz., Badiadka, Kasaragod which has given birth to very many famous personalities who contributed for Tulu and that the place which still can be said that the admirers of Tulu are currently in abundant.  He also briefed that this Conference is a joint conference irrespective of any caste, creed or religion and where all Tuluvas will wholeheartedly assemble and showcase the art and culture of our Tulu Nadu.  He then invited Sarvotham Shetty to inaugurate the meeting with inaugural speech.

Sarvotham Shetty invited all the Tuluva leaders to join hand in inaugurating the meeting with the traditional lighting of the lamp.  Soon after the inauguration he revealed on how the main office bearers of the ‘Vishwa Tulu Ayono 2016’ invited him and how he has been selected for the overseas honorary president ship.  Dharmapal Devadiga is the ongoing president of the main ‘Vishwa Tulu Ayono 2016’ who responsible organizer of this whole event.  While expressing his sadness on the numbers of members present in the current meet, he detailed on the programme scheduled for the conference and said that the organisers have arranged a good event combing all the Tuluvas of the World in one venue for a five day’s Conference wherein Tuluva regional people of various linguistic sects like Tulu, Kannada, Malayalam Konkani, Marathi, Karhada, Beary, Maapille, Urdu, Kundagannada, Aregannada, Kodava, Havyeka & Maavila multi-linguistic meet will happen for the first time in such a beautiful venue.  He also added that there will be an each day event with special programs scheduled throughout wherein the Tulu Nadu’s Culture, Worship, Art, Folk, Games, Literature will be highlighted in one venue.  He highlighted that though Kasaragod is part of Kerala the blood running in the veins of those people living in this place is still Tuluva blood which we can still observe in their behaviors and their love toward this language which still people of the real Tulu Nadu is lacking.  Hence after various discussion this venue is being selected for this great event to gather people of various caste, creed and religion under one umbrella in this conference mainly focusing Tulu language, culture and folk.  More than 3 lakh Tuluvas are expected to gather from around the world and more than 2 crores of rupees are estimated to be spent to make this great event successful.  Since the organisers have budgeted a proportion expected from overseas Tuluvas, he said that he has shouldered this responsibility and have arranged meetings in various Gulf Countries wherein the Tuluva Leaders of each Gulf Country have come forward to support for this cause.  Before inviting contributions from the assembled leaders at the meeting, Sarvotham Shetty announced that his contribution which was followed by other leaders in support.  While meetings in different Gulf States are on in selecting the office bearers for this event, the UAE office bearers were announced by Vinay Naik are as follows:-

Later elected President of UAE Wing, Frank Fernandes spoke on his selection and with humour rendered a beautiful speech citing some texts of Ramayana and Vedas.  While wholeheartedly accepting the responsibility bestowed on him he shared some examples of his childhood and his earlier active participation in the rituals of Hinduism.  He confirmed his participation and wished the event great success.

Later Prabhakar Ambalthere an active critic Kannadiga/Tuluva activist residing in UAE from Kasaragod expressed his feelings and highlighted the Tuluvas of Kasaragod who as per him are still the real Tuluvas who have contributed a lot to the whole of Karnataka in very many ways which is in record.  Later Ganesh Rai spoke and briefed on the overseas Tuluvas who have contributed for the Tulu language, culture and folk and said that there were very many people who have put lot of efforts to show case the rich Tulu Culture in this part of the world. He congratulated Sarvotham Shetty for his leadership in arranging this meet and wished him good luck.  Continued was a good speech by Manohar Thonse from Abu Dhabi Billawas who briefed the audience on and about the programme, which he said is the venue to put together the richness of Tulu Culture, Folk and Art in one place assembling Tuluvas from around the world which in other means ‘Tuluva World Conference’.  He continued and said that the richness of Tuluvere Parba, Culture, and Folk was showcased in very many occasions in the gulf especially in the unforgettable historical event by Nama Tuluveru UAE in Dubai lead by Shodhan Prasad, some time ago, which is one of such event to be remembered. While congratulating Sarvotham Shetty for his selection he said that we need to collectively join hands in the success of this programme.

Dubai, Aug 7: One may call it good luck, but for two Indian expats it was God who prevented them at the last minute from boarding the Air India Express plane that crashed in Kerala, killing at least 18 people on board.

According to India's Civil Aviation Ministry, the Boeing 737 aircraft on a flight from Dubai to Kozhikode overshot the runway at Kozhikode airport on Friday evening. There were 184 passengers including 10 infants, 2 pilots and four cabin crew onboard the aircraft.

Noufal Moin Vetten, an Ajman resident working as an office boy in a Sharjah school, was booked to travel on the flight and had checked in as per schedule.

Recounting his miraculous escape, Vetten, a resident of Malappuram, Thirunavaya, whose visa was cancelled a week ago, told Gulf News: “I was handed my boarding pass, but when I reached immigration, they told me I had to pay a fine of Dh 1,000 (Rs 20,430) for overstay. I had only Dh 500 (Rs10,215) with me.

"I called my school PRO and he told me to come back. He said they would follow protocols and pay the fines before sending me,“ he said.

Vetten was disappointed and called his family to let them know.

“When I heard about the crash, I was saddened for all the passengers. But I'm so relieved I missed it. God has been really merciful,” said Vetten.

Afsal Parrakodan, a resident of Abu Dhabi, had a similar stroke of luck.

“My work visa was cancelled about a week ago. After getting my boarding pass, I was told I had to pay a fine of Dh1,000 at the immigration counter, but I had only Dh500 on me.”

“I was very keen to board the flight and be with my family. So I called a friend who brought me the additional Dh500, but by then, my baggage had been offloaded and the flight's doors were closed,” said Parrakodan.

“I was feeling very sad and called my mother to tell her I had missed the flight. But a few hours later, when I learnt of the crash, I couldn’t help but feel relieved and thankful to God for saving my life,“ said an overwhelmed Parrakodan who plans to fly back next week.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.

In a humanitarian gesture to help fellow citizens in distress, the first in the series of chartered 
flights arranged by Thumbay Group, UAE and the Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) Trust, 
Mangalore to repatriate stranded Kannadigas in the UAE took off from Ras Al Khaimah 
International Airport in the wee hours of 21st July 2020. The flight was fully occupied, with 186 passengers, all of them desperate to fly back to India for various reasons.

The initiative was conceived and implemented under the leadership of Dr. Thumbay Moideen - Founder President of Thumbay Group & Founder Patron of BCF and Dr. B K Yusuf, the 
President of BCF. The flight was organized on a purely charitable basis, with all necessary 
steps and precautions in place to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers. Thumbay Group assigned its fleet of buses to transport the passengers free of charge from their residences in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman to the airport. The organizers also provided free meals and refreshments to the passengers, in addition to PPE kits and face-shields distributed free of 
charges.

The passengers on the first flight included many elderly individuals, people with serious 
illnesses like heart-related health issues and diabetes, pregnant ladies and little children as well as people who had lost their jobs and those with expired visas. Dr. B K Yusuf – BCF President, Dr. Kaup Mohammed - BCF General Secretary, other office bearers of BCF, as well as Thumbay Group’s representatives Mr. Farhad C – Director of the Hospitality Division of 
Thumbay Group and Engr. Farwaz P. C. – COO of the Construction Division were present at 
the airport to see off the first group of passengers.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Thumbay Moideen said, “This joint initiative of Thumbay 
Group and BCF is to support our fellow Kannadigas desperate to fly back home. We are happy that we have been able to reach out to many of them, to help them fly home to their families. We thank the Governments of the UAE and India, and the Indian Consulate, Dubai, for their support in making this happen. In the coming days, many more stranded Kannadigas would be repatriated under this joint initiative.”
Dr. B K Yusuf thanked Dr. Thumbay Moideen and the office-bearers and members of BCF for 
their efforts to make the initiative a success.

“We are proud that this initiative has brought relief to many Kannadigas and their families today. BCF is grateful to Thumbay Group for its support and partnership for all our humanitarian programs for the support of the needy.”

Dr. Kaup Mohammed said that it was a matter of pride that the much-awaited Thumbay-BCF 
repatriation flight had been carried out successfully. “Measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the flight and its passengers throughout the journey,” he said. He also thanked all the social organizations including Bhatkal Jamath, BCCI, BWF, KCF, DKSC, Kodagu Kannadigas, 
Kannadiga Help Line, Dubai Konkans and KSS, for their support. He specially thanked Mr. 
Syed Hassan Razeen, the owner of ARISTOCRAT Travels for his support in the ticketing, 
boarding and related processes. On behalf of Milano Optics Group and Maxcare, free gift 
hampers were distributed to selected passengers.

The passengers were received at Mangalore airport under the leadership of Mr. Mumtaz Ali - patron of BCF and other distinguished personalities of Mangalore including Mr. Moidin Bava - former MLA, Mr U. T. Ifthikhar, Mr. S. M. R Rashid - President of BCCI central committee and many others. The passengers were transferred to the hotels where they had registered for the mandatory quarantine.

The second flight under this joint initiative is scheduled to take-off from Ras Al Khaimah airport to Mangalore on 24th July 2020. A few more similar repatriation flights are to soon follow, in the coming weeks.
