Was unaware of Mathura violence, busy with film shoot: Hema Malini

June 4, 2016

Mumbai, Jun 4: BJP MP Hema Malini, who has been facing staunch criticism for posting pictures of her movie shoot when her Parliamentary constituency Mathura was hit by violence, on Friday evening, said she was unaware of the happenings as she was busy with her shooting.

Malini“I did not know at that time (yesterday) at all. All these things happened in the afternoon or by evening, while my shooting is in the morning at 8 am. Don’t blame me for that,” Malini told the media in Mumbai.

She said she had given appointment for shooting for six days, which she was done with.

“People are saying that there was an encroachment from over two years. But as per my knowledge, it is only for the last two months that the agitators encroached that place. I was asking the DM how did it happen,” Malini said.

The renowned actress also said the incident could have been avoided had the Uttar Pradesh Government provided extra force to control the agitators, which the administration had been asking for the last two months.

“The incident could have been avoided. The administration was asking for extra power to control the agitators, but the UP Government did not provide them with the authority to go ahead. I was on a shoot, thus was unaware of the incident. I tweeted just like that. How would I know that the incident was going to happen? My people in Mathura told me that the situation is under control, and there is no need for me to go there,” she added.

She also called on the Akhilesh Yadav-led Government to take care of law and order properly which, according to her, had not been at least in this case.

Malini in a series of tweets, earlier in the day, had shared the location of the shoot of her upcoming flick and her pleasant boat ride.

“I was pleasantly surprised to see a vast change this time thanks to Shri Gopal Shetty. The pathways leading to the boat in Versova are smooth (sic),” Malini tweeted.

“The journey to Madh Island used to be tedious those days. It used to be a 2 hr journey by road or by ferry the approach to which was horrible,” she said.

“Shooting at Madh island for Ek Thi Rani-a film based on the life of HH Vijaya Raje Scindia revived after many years.I play the title role,” she tweeted.

“Hoping for an early release of this film,” she said.

Realising that she had committed a blunder, Malini, however, soon withdrew her tweet and expressed grief over the loss of lives.

“I just came bk frm Mathura & got the news of the violence tht has taken place there in which policemen have lost their lives (sic),” Malini tweeted.

“So so upset by ths news frm a place which is so dear to me Will go there again if my presence is required. My heart goes out to the bereaved (sic),” she said.

Meanwhile, the death toll in yesterday’s Mathura clash has risen to 24. Those killed include Mathura Superintendent of Police (City) Mukul Dwivedi, Farah Police Station SHO Santosh Yadav and 20 protesters. More than 40 people have been injured in the incident.

The incident took place when the Swadheen Bharat Subhash Sena (SBSS) activists opened fire at the police party that attempted to evict the Jawahar Park late Thursday evening.

London, May 8: Actor Florence Pugh says the most terrifying aspect of starring in the upcoming superhero film "Black Widow" was doing the Russian accent.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe's stand-alone film, the Oscar-nominated actor plays Yelena Belova, a sister-figure to Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff/ the titular Black Widow who was trained in the Red Room.

"I was scared because my Russian accent was going to be out there and I didn't know what it sounded like.

"I'm also playing a character who no-one's seen before but they've read about her. I didn't know whether people were going to hate me!" Pugh told ELLE UK for its June issue.

The 24-year-old actor also said the idea of joining the MCU itself was quite "daunting".

"When you think of Marvel, it's big and daunting. Especially being a relatively small actor to look at it and go, 'Oh! I'm going to be a part of this', that's a big decision," she said.

"Black Widow", which was scheduled to hit the theatres on May 1, will now release on November 6 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Directed by Cate Shortland, the film also stars David Harbour and Rachel Weisz.

Mumbai, Jan 30: A day after a woman filed a complaint against Ganesh Acharya alleging that he had forced her to watch pornography, actor Tanushree Dutta said Bollywood should boycott the choreographer.

A 33-year-old woman, an assistant choreographer, has written to the National Commission for Women (NCW) alleging that Acharya used to make her watch porn videos whenever she visited his office in suburban Andheri.

She also alleged that Acharya and two women assaulted her during a function of the Indian Film and Television Choreographers Association (IFTCA) held in suburban Andheri on Sunday. A complaint has been filed in this regard with Amboli police.

"It's time Bollywood and the other Indian film industries boycott choreographer Ganesh Acharya completely. Hiding behind the male superstars who work with this despicable man, he has been abusing his power and position to harass, bully and take advantage of vulnerable young newcomers to the industry," Dutta said in a statement here.

Dutta had alleged that her co-star Nana Patekar harassed and misbehaved with her while shooting for a song for their 2008 film "Horn Ok Pleasss", and Acharya, who was the choreographer, introduced new steps which were "intimate".

Recalling the trauma she faced, Tanushree said even though Acharya was party to all the harassment she faced on the 'Horn ok Pleasss" set, he went on to spoil her name and reputation.

"Nobody had any regard for me and how much I had suffered psychologically and financially because of the turmoil I went though due to these people. I left the industry because I was so scared and hurt over the atrocious treatment meted out to me on 'Horn ok Pleasss' set.

"I had worked very sincerely to get to where I got in life and so went in shock for many years, over the whole episode on that set almost 12 years ago, that led to an attack on my car. They didn't just break my car, they broke my spirit that day," Dutta said, in reference to the attack on her car in 2008.

She expressed her displeasure over how "leading men" and "heroes" of Bollywood continued working with Acharya, whose most recent work includes "Simmba", "Zero", "Sanju" among others.

"Even after all the information of fraud, non payment of dues, sexual harassment of dancers, bullying and intimidation and even physical abuse of dancers is coming out about Ganesh Acharya in the media, if the actors, directors and producers still work with him, it would mean that they themselves are engaging in such acts also.

"It's a warning to the film industry to stay the hell away from Ganesh Acharya otherwise your own reputation will be joined to his character. I'm sure many more girls and boys will come out about his misbehaviour and shady business, opening floodgates in the future," she added.
