Welfare Kerala Kuwait conducts Women’s Empowerment Seminar

Kuwait: With an objective to widen the horizon of grassroots public engagement and action on gender issues and women’s empowerment initiatives and thereby strengthening the social foundations of both personal and public life of women, Welfare Kerala Kuwait conducted a Women’s empowerment seminar on International Women’s day at Pravasi auditorium, Kuwait.

“The essential bravery for an Empowered woman” was the theme of the seminar and was inaugurated by Dr. Hyma Reddy founder of “life again movement”. She has been well known for her re-birth after her fightagainst cancer. She now actively devotes her life for eliminating the pain of thousands of needy cancer patients. “Don’t be a slave of your past, be creative and joyful in your day to day life and share your happiness with others” she urged the packed audience. Razeena Mohiudeen presented the topic.

Welfare Kerala Kuwait Vice President Mini VenuGopal in her presidential address said that women should come to the forefront of governance not only in the household administration but also in building the nation through political engagements.

Addressing the audience Kerala SangeethaNatakaAkademi award winner Sunil Cherian reiterated that the history of women in India has been eventful and many women have held high offices including that of the President, Prime Minister, Speaker of the LokSabha, Leader of the Opposition, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers and Governors. Hence by learning lessons from the rich tradition, the modern women also should come forth and show her bravely to perform their effective role in building the society,

Leaders from various organizations actively participated in the seminar including famous writers and social reform activists like Dharma Raj, Shobha Suresh,KeerthiSumesh,Shiny Franco, Khaleelurahman and Anwar Saed.The discussion dwelled on wide-ranging issues affecting women in a male dominated world. The participants discussed the way forward in bringing about tangible changes in the community in creating gender equality and achieving women’s empowerment in all realms of social, political, education and economic life and significantly in strengthening the social foundations of women in political struggle.

Mini Venugopal presented the memento to Dr. Hyma Reddy, Abdul GhafoorThrithala rendered poems and a Documentary on the subject prepared by RaziyaNizar was presented, RafeeqBabu handled the instant quiz session, and Waheeda Faisal compered the program. Earlier Simi Akbar welcomed the gathering and Manju Mohan with her thought provoking speech concluded the session by saying that Women in India will remain backward until they are not socially and politically empowered and should show the bravery to resist with power the exploitation and harassments.

Dubai: A blood donation drive was conducted by Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club (KSCC) at in Al Wasl Club Stadium here on Friday, 26th June 2020.

The drive started around 1:00 pm and continued till 4:00 pm as per schedule provided by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Blood Donation Centre and 60 people donated blood to support the Blood Bank. The drive was well organised by maintaining social distance in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As blood cannot be produced but only can be donated, this drive will help many patients in need of blood during emergencies. Donors were also feeling proud and happy at this moment thinking of saving someone’s life.

DHA Blood Donation Centre staff carried out the screening and testing done in very well manner keeping social distancing during this pandemic. Volunteers of KSCC were also helping the staff to keep people in safe distance and to make this drive a success.

KSCC Manager Mr. Mohammad Shafi and other office bearers were present at the event venue. KSCC thanked the volunteers, Community Development of Authority (CDA), Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Blood Donation Centre, Government of Dubai and Al Wasl Club Stadium for making the event successful.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.

Kuwait: Eid is usually a time of family get-togethers and feasts after weeks of dawn-to-dusk fasting. But this year people celebrated at home, with virus fears dampening the holiday spirit and strict restrictions in place.

Kuwait went under full curfew before the start of Ramadan leaving people to practice fasting and Ramadan rituals at home, Even Eid al-Fitr came under full lock-down period.

As situation demanded, IMA Kuwait celebrated the Eid Get-together online via video conferencing tool, All IMA members participated joyfully in Eid Milan online gathering which was scheduled immediately after Eid prayer. Members participated and congratulated each other on the eve of Eid.

The IMA president Shamvel Parviz addressed the gathering and thanked them for joining online for this unique Eid celebration which will be remembered in history. He also advised members to be aware of conditions of neighbors, friends and family and assist them if they need help in this difficult time.

Eid al-Fitr follows weeks of fasting and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Thousands of Muslims all over Kuwait followed strict guideline and performed Eid prayer at home along with their family.

As a part of social service activities IMA also distributed ration kits before start of Ramadan and during Ramadan for needy people all over Kuwait.
