Mangaluru, Apr 18: B A Mohiuddin Bava, Congress candidate for Mangaluru City North, today said that the development works carried by him as an MLA in his constituency during the last five years will come to his rescue in the May 12 assembly polls.
Addressing the party workers at the party’s election office at Surathkal, on the outskirts of the city, Mr Bava said the looming polls would be fought on development plank. “There is no room for communalism or caste, community and religious issues in this polls. Development is the only agenda,” he said.
Listing out his achievements as an MLA, he said that during last five year, development projects to the tune of Rs 750 crore have been launched in his constituency. Besides, projects worth Rs 303 are ready for implementation, he said.
“I was mere a Congress leader until 2013. However, the day I became MLA, I became the representative of all the people in my constituency irrespective of their caste, community, religion and political parties,” he said, adding that he was thoroughly impartial in implementing development works in all wards of Mangaluru City Corporation and all Gram Panchayats that fall under his constituency.
“Earlier, the special grants received by the MCC were confined only for the development works in the urban area. However, as an MLA I have been successful in pressurizing the MCC to earmark 40% grants to Mangaluru North as 40% of the wards of the MCC fall under this constituency. As a result unprecedented development works were carried out in the constituency in last five years,” Mr Bava said.
Local Congress leaders Deepak Poojary, Deviprasad Shetty and Mahabala Marla were present on the occasion among others.
