Hyderabad, Sept 6: Sripeetam seer, Swami Paripoornananda, said that he would possibly join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) if their ideologies match.

Earlier, reports were doing the rounds that the pontiff, who is being seen as the Yogi Adityanath of Telangana will join the BJP.

Speaking on the same, Paripoornananda told ANI, "If I have to join, then the party will choose me, why should I run after a party? If there is a similarity in my thoughts and theirs (BJP), then there might be a possibility (of joining)."

Paripoornananda was externed from Hyderabad on July 11 for six months by the Hyderabad police for making provocative comments against other communities.

However, the Telangana High Court reversed the ban after a petition was filed by the Hindu seer.

Paripoornananda, who returned to the city on Tuesday, has long been rumoured to join the BJP and is also dubbed as "Yogi Adityanath of the South." However, he dismissed these comparisons, saying the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's political expertise is far greater than his.

"I and Yogi Ji are of the same age bracket, but he has more political knowledge because he is a four-time Member of Parliament and he is known for his unique identity," the swami from Shree Peetham mutt in Andhra Pradesh's Kakinada said.

Paripoornananda confirmed that he will be working with BJP leader T. Raja Singh in the coming elections, saying that, "whoever works for Hindutva, I will work with them."

He was also not concerned with Singh's known affinity for hate speeches, saying the MLA from Goshamahal assembly constituency makes hate speeches because he gets hurt when anything bad is said about the Hindu community. "We will not tolerate it," said Paripoornananda.

When questioned about his known hatred for Owaisi brothers- Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi, he said, "People who don't want to say 'Bharat Mata ki Jai,' why should I like them. Also, they have always said bad things about my religion, I don't have any personal problem with them but they say bad things about my god that is the reason I don't like them."

New Delhi, Feb 11 Congress's performance touched a record low in the Delhi Assembly election as the party bagged less than 5 per cent of the total votes polled and 63 of its candidates lost their deposits.

The party, which ruled Delhi for 15 years on the trot under former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, failed to open its account for the second consecutive assembly election in Delhi.

Only three of its candidates Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar, Devender Yadav from Badli and Abhishek Dutt from Kasturba Nagar managed to save their deposits.

Security deposit of a candidate is forfeited if he/she fails to secure one-sixth of the total valid votes cast in a constituency.

Most of Congress candidates got less than 5 per cent of the total votes polled in their respective constituencies.

Delhi Congress chief Shubhash Chopra's daughter Shivani Chopra, who was the party candidate from Kalkaji, also could not save her deposit.

Former Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri's daughter Priyanka Singh also forfeited her deposit.

The party's campaign committee chairman Kirti Azad's wife, Poonam Azad, lost badly and stood fourth, polling only 2,604 (2.23) votes.

An Indian national was killed and four others injured in alleged firing by Nepal police personnel along the India-Nepal border in Bihar's Sitamarhi district today.

Sources said the firing took place after a clash between the Indians and personnel of Nepal police at the Lalbandi-Janki Nagar border in Pipra Parsain panchayat under Sonebarsha police station of the district.

Jitendra Kumar, the additional director general of police (headquarters), confirmed the death and injuries. The place of firing falls under Nepal jurisdiction.

Locals said Vikesh Kumar Rai, 25, died on the spot and Umesh Ram and Uday Thakur received bullet injuries when they were working in an agricultural field. Another person, Lagan Rai, is said to have been detained by the Nepali police.

Injured persons were rushed to Sitamarhi Sadar Hospital for better treatment.

Vikesh Kumar Rai’s father, Nageshwar Rai, said that his agriculture land falls under Narayanpur in Nepal where his son was working.

On May 17, Nepal police had fired blank rounds to disperse dozens of Indians trying to cross the border. It was not clear if they were also farmers.

The district magistrate and the superintendent of police of Sitamarhi have rushed to the spot.

Nepal shares a 1,850-kilometre (1,150-mile) open border with India and people travel across it for work and to visit family. It had closed its international borders on March 22 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
