Will tour all the 224 constituencies: HDK

Holenarasipur (Hassan Dist), Nov 7: The Janata Dal (Secular) state president H D Kumaraswamy said the party aims to win 113 seats s in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Talking to reporters at Haradanahalli, his native village in the taluk, Kumaraswamy said he will begin the campaign on Tuesday from the Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency, in the Mysuru taluk.

The former chief minister said he will tour all the 224 constituencies across the state. He will tour Hassan district in January 2018, on Karnataka Vikas Vahini - a campaign bus designed for him. In the first phase of the campaign, he will tour 50 Assembly segments in the North Karnataka region.

Gram vastavya - a stay at villages - is also planned during his tour.

"Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is issuing irresponsible statements against the JD(S). I will show him that two lakh voters of the Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency are with the JD(S) in polls," he said.

When asked about the candidature of Prajwal Revanna - son of his elder brother H D Revanna - Kumaraswamy said: "It will be decided in the days to come. All the party workers, including Prajwal, have a desire to contest the polls. We will decide it at a suitable time."

Bhavani Revanna, wife of Revanna, had said that the party supremo H D Deve Gowda had agreed for Prajwal's candidature and he would be fielded either from Belur in Hassan district or Rajarajeshwarinagar in Bengaluru.

Earlier, Kumaraswamy offered a special puja at Shiva and Mavinakere Ranganatha Swamy temples in Haradanahalli.

Gowda not to retire

Meanwhile, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda said he would not retire from politics.

"I have a desire to serve the people being in politics. I will concentrate more on North Karnataka region. The party will field candidates from all the 224 Assembly and 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in the 2018 polls," Gowda said.

Bengaluru, Jul 18: Karnataka minister R Ashoka on Friday said that the COVID-19 lockdown will not be extended further in Bengaluru.

While commenting on the COVID-19 lockdown extension R Ashoka said, "We have taken expert opinion, and the lockdown will not be extended. It will end on July 22."

Earlier today, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Mayor, M Goutham Kumar called for an extension of lockdown in the city for one more week due to rise in the COVID-19 cases. "It will be better if we get more time to tackle COVID-19 cases. We wish for the extension of lockdown for one more week. We have given the proposal to the government," said Kumar.

Lockdown had been imposed in the city for seven days with effect from 8 pm on July 14 till 5 am on July 22 to curb the further spread of COVID-19.

As many as 3,693 new COVID-19 positive cases and 115 deaths have been reported in Karnataka on Friday, the State Health Department said.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state now stands at 55,115 including 33,205 active cases. While there are 20,757 recoveries, the death toll stands at 1,147.

Kalaburagi, Jul 2: Hoteliers in Kalaburagi have claimed that their business is hit due to night curfew timings in the state.

The night curfew in the state has been imposed from 8 pm to 5 am.

Speaking to news agency, Sudarshan, a hotelier said, "Peak business hour is 7-10 pm but now we close by 8 pm. There is almost no business. We are unable to pay our workers. The government should think about it".

"We haven't received any benefit from the government so far. If we are in trouble how will we help our workers? Relaxation should be given," he added.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government on Tuesday announced a complete lockdown on Sundays till August 2.

So far, Karnataka has reported 15,242 COVID-19 cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Bengaluru, April 3: Central Crime Branch (CCB) Bengaluru has arrested two persons for allegedly possessing illicit liquor.

The probe team also allegedly seized bottles worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from their possession on Thursday.

A case has been registered against the accused and investigation into the matter is underway, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police informed news agency.
