'Will try not to work with Bipasha again'

June 21, 2014

Mumbai, Jun 21: An upset Vashu Bhagnani has decided not to work with actress Bipasha Basu again after she failed to show up for the promotion of his latest production 'Humshakals'.

Vashu BhagnaniThe film, starring Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Ram Kapoor in triple roles, released today to poor reviews. Bipasha played one of the three leading ladies in the film, besides Tamannaah and Esha Gupta.

The Bengali beauty kept herself away from the promotions and later clarified that she "was not satisfied with the end result and hence has decided to stay away from the movie.

"I will try and not work with her again. I told Sajid she is a friend of my son and a very lovely lady. I never thought she will have a problem. We don't know what problem she has," Bhagnani told reporters at the special screening of 'Humshakals' last night.

The entire cast attended the screening except Bipasha.

"While signing the film and giving her money we had told her about the role. It is not that we told her something else. May be it is her personal feeling. If I sign her tomorrow and she does something like this again... I am sorry," he said.

Bhagnani seems unhappy with the way the dusky beauty expressed her displeasure on social networking site.

"She is a responsible girl and she shouldn't have given the statement. Everyone knows that the boys in the film have triple roles, hers is a single role and she was told about it. I think she had some confusion about her role and she feels her role is small," Bhagnani said. Bhagnani feels Bipasha is not happy with the extensive footage given to the male stars.

"She is a senior actor and might have felt that she should not have done such a small role. But all the girls had small roles in the film. Almost 80 per cent of the film belongs to guys," he added.

Bhagnani is happy with the way the film has turned out and is all praise for the entire team.

"Sajid is the hero of the film. The way he has made the film and the way he made Saif, Riteish and Ram do triple roles in an entertaining manner is fantastic," he added.

Besides the main star cast, those present at the screening included Sajid's sister Farah, noted writer Salim Khan with son Arbaaz, actors Prem Chopra, Tabu, Sonu Sood, Zayed Khan, Jackky Bhagnani and Neha Sharma.

Mumbai, May 17: TV actor Manmeet Grewal, who worked on shows like "Aadat Se Majboor" and "Kuldeepak", committed suicide after struggling with dwindling finances amid lockdown, family friend-producer Manjit Singh Rajput said.

Grewal, who was originally from Punjab, hanged himself on Friday night at his Kharghar residence here where he lived with his wife. He was 32.

Rajput, who had known Grewal for nearly seven years, said the actor was facing "financial crisis" and wasn't able to earn due to the lockdown.

"He was going through a major financial issue and he was also in depression. The added pressure of not being able to repay loans amid this (no work phase) got to him. His wife is completely shocked and devastated," Rajput told PTI.

The producer said last rites of the actor were performed on Saturday.

Grewal was working on projects like a webseries and some commercials, which were put on hold due to the nationwide lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Mumbai, Jan 4: After the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur constituted a panel to decide whether legendary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poem 'Hum Dekhenge' is offensive to Hindu sentiments, filmmaker Shoojit Sircar had a cryptic take on the burning controversy.

"Best time for the rich & small businesses to make money as most of the population are engaged with a revolutionary poet named Faiz," Sircar said in a tweet.

The poem, penned down by the iconic poet in 1979, came into limelight again recently during the protests against CAA and NRC in IIT Kanpur.

Earlier on Thursday, senior lyricist Javed Akhtar rejected the claims about the poem being 'anti-Hindu'.

IIT Kanpur on Thursday had set up a committee to look into the issue.

The move came after a complaint that the students who took out a peaceful march in the campus on December 17 against the Citizenship Amendment Act and in solidarity with Jamia Millia Islamia students, sung it as a mark of protest, which hurt the sentiments of other communities.

The CAA grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians who faced religious persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
