New Delhi, Jun 23: A 22-year-old woman allegedly chopped off genitals of her 35-year-old boyfriend after he refused to marry her and have physical relationship with her in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri on Wednesday night. The woman has been absconding along with her family members since the crime.bobbitises

The victim was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where he was stated to be out of danger. Doctors have told police that the man has undergone a surgery and his life has been saved. “Though the man has undergone a surgery, doctors fear that the reattachment may not be successful,” said a police officer.

A case under section 326 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Mangolpuri police station against the absconding woman.

The man, a street vendor from Mangolpuri area, had just returned from work at around 11.30pm when the woman’s sister-in-law, who lives three blocks away, telephoned him and asked him to come over. “The sister-in-law told him that his girlfriend wanted to meet and discuss some urgent issues,” the officer said.

The man went there and ended up in an argument with the woman on the issue of their wedding. The woman, the officer said, asked him to marry her which he refused saying his family members did not approve of their relationship.

The victim told the police that the woman then pushed him inside the bathroom, undressed him, and forced him to have sex with her. When he refused, she allegedly brought a knife from the kitchen and threatened to kill him. However, the man remained reluctant.

“This sent her flying into a rage. Furious, she snipped off his genitals. The crime unfolded in the presence of the woman’s brother and sister-in-law, who were in the house and kept motivating the woman to teach her boyfriend a lesson,” said a senior investigator.

Sources said that when the man started bleeding profusely he rushed out of the woman’s home screaming for help. Hearing his screams, some neighbours came out of their homes and called the police control room. By the time a police van arrived, the man had fallen unconscious.

“We rushed him to the hospital and he underwent a surgery to rejoin his private parts. After he regained consciousness, we recorded his statement. He initially refused to file an FIR against the woman, but agreed later,” the officer added.

The 35-year-old victim is unmarried and lives with his family in Mangolpuri. The two met each other a few years ago and later entered a relationship. “The woman was possessive about him. When she learnt that his family members were against their relationship, she insisted on marrying him and started pressuring him,” the officer said.

Teams have been formed to raid the possible hideouts of the absconding accused and bring her to book at the earliest.

New Delhi, Jan 6: A blind student who is pursuing research in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was also attacked by the mob that perpetrated violence in the University yesterday.

"I thought that the mob which came yesterday would disperse after raising a few slogans but they indulged in violence. They were targeting ABVP students. They beat me with sticks and rods. When I went to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, I came to know that there are many other injured students there," Surya Prakash, the blind student pursuing research in the University told ANI.

"I talked to my family members. They are really worried about the situation here. I qualified in the National Eligibility Test (NET) last year but I want to study and hence I am continuing research in JNU. How can we do anything in this atmosphere of fear? I am receiving calls from anonymous numbers threatening me not to come in front of the media. They are saying that as I am blind, I would become the face of this case," he added.

Another PhD student, Santosh Bhagat recounted his experience.

"In the evening at around 7 pm, many masked men entered the hostel. They had rods and sticks in their hands. We tried to go out but the attackers had entered the premises by then. I locked my room from inside but the attackers broke the door and entered my room and attacked me. They pushed me from the first floor and I fell down and sustained an injury. Later, I took shelter at one of the Professor's flat. Later, I was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Cantre," Bhagat said.

On Sunday evening, more than 30 students of the university, including JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh, were injured and were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre after a masked mob entered the JNU and attacked them and professors with sticks and rods.

The JNU administration and political leaders, cutting across political lines, condemned the attack on students and urged the police to take action against the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the situation remained tense but peaceful outside JNU on Monday morning as the university guards maintained a strict vigil at the gate, checking I-cards of all those entering the university.
