Woman dragged out of car, raped in front of husband, in-laws in Gurugram

Gurgaon, Jan 23: A 22-year-old woman was forcibly dragged out of the car and raped in front of her family at gunpoint. The incident took place at Sector-56 in Gurgaon on late Sunday night. Four persons have been arrested for the crime, said the police.

The woman was returning home after attending a family function in her brother-in-law's car. Both the husband and brother-in-law were travelling with her. The family stopped the car near Business Park Tower in Gurgaon Sector 56 where the husband stepped out to relieve himself. The victim and the brother-in-law waited inside the car.

According to the police complaint, two cars suddenly arrived at the spot. Four men stepped out and started questioning why did they stop the car. The men then dragged the woman out of the car.

One person sexually assaulted the victim while the other three held the husband and brother-in-law at gun- point, said Manish Sehgal, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) and chief PRO of Gurgaon police.

Before fleeing, they threatened the victim and her family with dire consequences if they approach the police, said Sehgal, adding the woman's husband managed to note down the registration number of their one of cars.

"The accused were arrested from their residences in Johalka village near Sohna in Gurgaon and a case under relevant sections of the IPC have been registered against them," the officer said.

Haryana has witnessed a sharp rise in cases of rapes and sexual assaults over the last month. Over 10 incidents of rape has been reported in last 10 days. Under pressure to restore law and order situation, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has recommended death penalty for raping girls below 12 years of age.

Gonda, Apr 9: A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his room as he was missing his wife stuck at her parents' place due to the lockdown, police said.

The incident took place in Radha Kund locality here on Wednesday, they said, adding the deceased has been identified as Rakesh Soni, 32.

As per information, Soni's wife had gone to her parents' place and was stuck there due to the lockdown and he was missing her due to which he committed suicide, Inspector Alok Rao said.

A probe is on in the mater, he said.

Lucknow, May 1: Six members of a family were allegedly hacked to death by another family member over a property dispute in Gudauli village in the Banthra area on the outskirts of the city on Thursday, police said.

The accused, Ajay Singh (26), went to the local police station after committing the crime and surrendered, they added.

Singh allegedly had a heated argument with the family members over a property and attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon, the police said.

The accused allegedly killed his mother, father, elder brother, his wife and two children -- a son and a daughter -- they added.

The victims were identified as Amar (60), Ramsakhi (55), Arun (40), Ramdulari (35), Saurabh (7) and Sarika (2).

When asked, Commissioner of Police Sujeet Pandey said six members of a family were killed and the accused surrendered before the police.

Hyderabad, Apr 11: With the Telangana government banning spitting in public places in the backdrop of COVID-19 pandemic, a police case has been registered here against a man for violating the rule.

During vehicle-checking on Friday, police found the man spitting on the road here and registered a case against him for disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant, police said.

Spitting in public places and institutions has been banned in the state in view of the pandemic with the government saying such acts pose a serious threat of leading to spread of infections.

"In the interest of public health and safety, the spitting of paan/any chewable tobacco or non-tobacco product, sputum in public places & institutions is hereby BANNED with immediate effect," a gvernment notification said.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the fore the importance of hygiene and cleanliness in both personal as well as public spheres, the April 6 notification issued by the Health, Medical and Family Welfare department said.

"It is of utmost need to impose restrictions on unhealthy practices that may potentially lead to spread of such viruses and other infections," it said.

The habit of public spitting poses a serious threat of leading to spread of such infections, the notification added.
