Pune, Aug 15: A 26-year-old woman from West Bengal helped the city police rescue four persons, including a minor, forced into prostitution after escaping from a brothel in Budhwar Peth.

The police have taken the brothel-keeper and his wife into custody.

Sanjay Patil, senior inspector of the social security cell of the Pune crime branch, said a person had brought the Bengali woman to Pune on July 16 promising her a job. But he sold her to a brothel owner in Budhwar Peth. "The woman tried to escape from the brothel, but her attempts failed," Patil said.

The woman then managed to contact her parents in West Bengal, who lodged a complaint with the police.

"A West Bengal-based non-governmental organization contacted Shyam Kamble, a social worker in Pune, and gave him the details about the woman," Patil said.

With the help of Kamble, the woman managed to escape from the brothel and took shelter in a hospital.

"On Friday, the woman met the Pune police commissioner, Rashmi Shukla, and narrated the incident," Patil further elaborated.

Based on the information given by the woman, a team of social security cell raided the brothel and rescued four women, including a minor. "We suspect the minor is from Bangladesh," Patil said.

Panaji, Feb 23: A MiG-29K aircraft crashed off Goa during a routine training sortie on Sunday morning, the Indian Navy said in a statement.

"The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered. An enquiry into the incident has been ordered," the statement said.

On November 16, a MiG-29K trainer flight had crashed after a bird hit, soon after it took off the Dabolim International airport, which functions out of the Indian Navy base INS Hansa.

Both pilots had managed to safely eject themselves to safety after both the engines of their jet failed.

According to data tabled in the recent budget session of the Goa Assembly, every ten days, at least one aircraft landing or taking off at Goa's Dabolim international airport faces dangers involving birds or stray dogs near the runway.
