Gurugram, Oct 25: A 32-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed 30 times by a stalker at the busy M.G. Road metro station here during rush hour on Monday morning.

pinkiShe received wounds on her face, neck, chest and abdomen and died before she reached the hospital, according to the post-mortem report.

Pinki, who worked at a beauty parlour in Rohini, was on her way to the metro station to catch a train to her workplace around 9 a.m. when the accused approached her from behind with a knife and started stabbing her.

“She had barely walked a few steps after climbing up the stairs to the metro station at Gate No. 2 when the man came from behind and attacked her. As she fell on the floor, he sat on her and continued stabbing her,” claimed an eyewitness who runs a kiosk at the station.

According to the eyewitness, who did not want to be named, the corridor was crowded with people and a few of them even tried to intervene, but the accused brandished the knife at them, warning them to stay away.

“CISF personnel at the station also rushed in but initially no one could get close to him. One of the passers-by then brought a table fan from a shop on the station and hit the accused on the head. He was then caught and beaten up by the people,” the eyewitness said.

The accused, Jitender, was handed over to the police. He is a resident of Rajiv Nagar in Gurugram. He belongs to Uttar Pradesh and runs an auto-rickshaw in the city.

The spot where the murder took place is not covered by closed circuit television cameras, but the woman is seen in CCTV footage walking into the station talking over the mobile phone, said a police officer at the metro station.

Pinki, a resident of Sirhual village, was declared dead at the Civil Hospital. Dr. Deepak Mathur, who conducted the post-mortem, said she had been stabbed “mercilessly” and “aimlessly.”

“She has more than 30 stab wounds, mostly on the chest and the neck. The wounds have been inflicted in different directions,” Dr. Mathur said.

Pinki’s husband, Man Singh, who works at a pantry in the city, said the accused had been stalking her for the past several months. However, no complaint was made to the police.

Panaji, Feb 23: A MiG-29K aircraft crashed off Goa during a routine training sortie on Sunday morning, the Indian Navy said in a statement.

"The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered. An enquiry into the incident has been ordered," the statement said.

On November 16, a MiG-29K trainer flight had crashed after a bird hit, soon after it took off the Dabolim International airport, which functions out of the Indian Navy base INS Hansa.

Both pilots had managed to safely eject themselves to safety after both the engines of their jet failed.

According to data tabled in the recent budget session of the Goa Assembly, every ten days, at least one aircraft landing or taking off at Goa's Dabolim international airport faces dangers involving birds or stray dogs near the runway.
