Iliyas of Pamulapadu village in Tadikonda mandal in Guntur district and Hima Bindu of Venigandla village were in a relationship for over four years. Bindu was pursuing her pharmacy course in a private college. Ilyas and Bindu were said to be friends from degree days.

Things went wrong when Iliyas got married to another woman on Tuesday. An infuriated Hima Bindu then called Iliyas to meet her on the pretext of settling the matter once and for all. When Iliyas met Hima Bindu, she poured acid on his face for cheating her. Kakani police registered a case and took up an investigation. Hima Bindu is at large.

Mangalagiri CI Brahmaiah said two police teams were pressed into action to nab the girl. There are unconfirmed reports that the girl and two men, who helped her, have been taken into custody.

Ilyas' family members said they were not aware of his affair with Bindu till she had approached his elder brother Allabakshu on Sunday, a day before the marriage, questioning about her future.

"I begged her to spare Ilyas as we never knew about it. She promised me that she would not disturb the wedding. Accordingly, there was no call or any other attempt to create any disturbance in the function on Monday. But, she took her revenge the very next day, rendering the new bride a widow," said a weeping Allabakshu, who is a mechanic.

Mar 12: Three women were arrested for allegedly administrating fake coronavirus vaccines to villagers in Maharashtra's Jalna district, police said on Thursday.

The police on Wednesday arrested Beed residents Radha Ramnath Saamse, Seema Krishna Andhale and Sangeeta Rajendra Avhad, who allegedly posed as doctors and healthcare workers, an official said.

The trio met villagers of Pipalgoan in Ambad tehsil, informed them about a vaccine that could protect them from coronavirus and administered it to gullible locals, he said.

Some villagers informed Dr Mahadev Munde, a medical officer at a rural health centre, about this, after which a complaint was lodged, the official said.

Fake vaccines and bottles, which were seized from the accused, have been sent to the state health department, he said, adding that a case of cheating has been registered against the trio.
