Woman's head shaved off by husband, in-laws after she gave birth to second girl child

Agra, Nov 30: At a time when the central government is emphasising on empowering and securing the girl child with the slogan 'Beti bachao beti padhao', in Agra a woman's head was allegedly shaved off and she was physically assaulted by her in-laws after she gave birth to second girl child.

shavedThe victim, who is suffering from anemia, gave written complaint to police against her husband and in-laws at Malpura police station.

As per complaint letter, Nannu, the victim, has been married to Rashid for the last seven years who is a tempo driver. The couple had a four-year-old daughter. In the third week of November month, the victim gave birth to another girl child.

"Since the birth of second girl, my husband and in-laws have been mentally and physically torturing and assaulting me. They even shaved off my head," stated the complaint letter of the victim.

Speaking to media, victim's sister-in-law (brother's wife) Praveen Banu said, "On November 27, Rashid shaved off the head of Nannu and threw her out of home. Her 13-day-old baby girl kept on crying for milk but the family did not let the woman meet her child. The emotionally tormented woman returned to her parent's home on Monday and narrated the ordeal she faced after the second girl child birth."

"The seven-year long marriage of Nannu has made her emotionally weak and mentally unstable due to continues harassment and assault by in-laws and husband. Currently, she is suffering from anemia and needs four units of blood," said Praveen Banu.

Speaking to media, Uttamchand Patel, station officer of Malpura, said, "Since the woman is physically week, we have asked her husband to take her to hospital and get her treated."

He said, "Nannu's family has withdrawn the complaint against her husband, as they want the couple to live together and take care of the two daughters."

According to sources, after hearing the ordeal of Nannu, police detained five family members, including Rashid, and warned him to take stringent action against them, if they did not took care of the victim.

By the time, this report was filed, Nannu's 13-day- old daughter was brought to her, after which she breastfed her.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 22:An accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act jumped into the sea on Wednesday morning when he was taken for evidence collection at Kasaba in Kasargode district, police said.

Accused Mahesh was arrested following a complaint by his neighbour on Tuesday evening.

The police said that they took the accused to the seashore to collect evidence in the case when Mahesh jumped into the sea. Two police officials too jumped in after him to catch hold of him but could not locate Mahesh.

Later, swimmers were deployed to try and locate the missing man.

Bareilly, May 31: The Bareilly couple who had made headlines in July last year when they eloped and apprehended a threat to their life from the girl's father who is a BJP MLA in UP, is back in the news.

Ajitesh, now son-in-law of BJP MLA Rajesh Mishra, and his friend were arrested on Saturday for allegedly thrashing a youth and snatching his cell phone after a minor road mishap in Prem Nagar area of Bareilly district.

Ajitesh is married to Sakshi, daughter of the MLA and the couple had eloped last year and got married.

According to police, the youth was on his way home after buying medicines for his friend's father when his bike hit Ajitesh's SUV. Ajitesh and his friend thrashed the youth and snatched his cell phone.

Police said Ajitesh and his friend Vaibhav Gangwar were booked under IPC section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and other relevant sections.

Both have been sent to jail.

The complainant Deepanshu Maheshwari said, "When I overtook Ajitesh's car, he chased and waylaid me in the middle of the road. Thereafter, he and his friend thrashed me and snatched my phone. SHO Balbir Singh and his team rescued me."

The SHO told reporters, "We checked CCTV footage and spoke to witnesses only to find that Ajitesh and his friend had thrashed the youth. A case was registered under relevant sections and both were sent to jail after being produced before a magistrate on Saturday. The youth has been admitted to a hospital and his condition is stable."

The BJP MLA, incidentally, had snapped all his ties with his daughter Sakshi after she eloped and married Ajitesh.

Bengaluru, May 21:Tragedy struck an elderly migrant worker who was looking forward to joining his family as he died on reaching a nearby railway station to board a Shramik Special train to his home state Madhya Pradesh, police said on Thursday.

The 69-year old man, who worked in a coffee estate in Chikkamagaluru, collapsed and died soon after getting down from a state-run KSRTC bus that brought him and others to the Chikkabanavara Railway station on Wednesday.

According to police, fellow labourers said he had been ailing for quite some time.

The cause of his death would be known only after a post-mortem, police added.

Karnataka government has been sending back thousands of migrant workers stranded in the state due to the COVID-19 lockdown by arranging the special trains.
