Women's problems cannot be solved with selfie: Richa Chadha on Modi's #selfiewithdaughter

July 20, 2015

Mumbai, Jul 20: Richa Chadha has termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "selfie with daughter" campaign as sweet, but feels problems faced by women cannot be solved by "selfie or anything like that."

richa-chadha"It was a sweet initiative: was a good initiative... there is no harm, but I thought it is an urban initiative ... the initiative is meant for those who have smart phones with them," Richa said in an interview here.

"The problems of the female - dowry, sexual harassment, eve teasing and others - cannot be solved by selfie or anything like that," she said.

Richa, along with Vicky Kaushal, Shwetha Tripathi and director Neeraj Gheywan, was in the city to promote Masaan, which is slated to release on July 24 in the country.

On Monday morning however, Chadha tweeted out that she had been quoted out of context:

Masaan, which is slated to release on July 24 in the country. The film portrays the relationship between father and daughter amid troubled times. Asked about Bollywood films on father-daughter relationship she liked the most and how these were different

from Masaan, Richa said Mili and Daddy were two films that portrayed father-daughter relationship in a beautiful way.

"There is a very nice film called Mili - Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan were in it. It is quite a beautiful film ... Mahesh Bhatt's "Daddy" is also very nice which spoke about the problem of addiction. The portrayal of father-daughter relationship is very nice," she said.

However, these two films are altogether different from Masaan - the father here is not at all supportive and rude to the character of Devi she is playing in the film," she said.

"In my film the father is not at all supportive. He is not nice to her at all; he is rude to her, though it is justifiable from the point of view of which society he comes from," she said.

"It is different because the story is set in the cultural context of Banaras, a city which is very religious in its character. The father's expectations of his daughter are very high. The weight of Maryada (dignity) is borne by the woman so, in that it is very different," she said.

She is also doing a film with Excel Entertainment. "...It will start next year. They are still finalising the cast. It is about a guy who is a pathological liar, and the woman falls for him. I am playing a regular role," she said.

Washington, Mar 11: Pop star Selena Gomez made some revelations about her personal life in a recent interview.

While explaining the lyrics of her song "Rare" on the 'Genius' YouTube channel, the 27-year-old said that there are times when she feels that she will ever be able to find a suitable partner for herself, reported Fox News.

"Some days when I wake up and I am annoyed and I am like, 'I am going to be alone forever.' But after that 15 minutes go away, I say to myself, 'I know that there is someone for everybody," the singer told in the seven-and-a-half minute long video.

However, she remains optimistic as she is still young and "this isn't the end all be all".

Elaborating upon the chorus of her song, Gomez opened up and said, "self-esteem and confidence is a constant struggle".

"It's getting better with time and age, but it will always be something that I'm working on," she added while explaining the lyrics further.

"So what I think is so important about this chorus is that it's acknowledging, 'Hey, I don't have it all. I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I do know that I'm special,' and I think that is a humble approach of saying, 'Why don't you see that I am different?'" the singer added as reported by Fox News.

Touching upon her experiences from past relationships, she commented: "In certain relationships, I've heard and I've experienced and whatnot, I think men and women do it -- especially teenagers and young people in love -- is there's this satisfaction out of hurting someone because you know that they care. Purposefully putting someone down because they want to keep them at a level. I've had someone actually say that to me before".

Washington, May 18: Joining hands with the European Commission, actor Leonardo DiCaprio launched the Virunga Fund with seed money of USD 2 million to support Africa's Virunga National Park.

Since Virunga has lost a significant amount of revenue due to COVID shutdown post-March, the fund will be used to support the national park and the communities around, reported Variety.

The fund is aimed at disease prevention efforts, protection of mountain gorilla, and other species.

"I had the great honor of meeting and supporting Virunga's courageous team in their fight against illegal oil drilling in 2013," Variety quoted DiCaprio as saying.

"Virunga urgently needs funds to protect the endangered mountain gorilla population, to provide support to the rangers and the families of rangers who have fallen in the line of duty, and to help deliver essential disease prevention efforts. It's critical that we rally together during this time of incredible crisis," he added.

The 'Titanic' actor had earlier produced a Netflix documentary film 'Virunga' which is based on the national park.
