Mirpur, Apr 6: Sri Lankan bowlers displayed great accuracy to restrict India to a moderate 130/4 in the World T20 final at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
Virat Kohli once again shone with the willow to steer India to a competitive total. He scored 77 off 57 balls while Rohit Sharma chipped in with 29 off 26 balls.
Came to bat after the dismissal of Ajinkya Rahane in the second over at the score of 4, Kohli steadied India and shared 60-run stand with Rohit Sharma for the second wicket before the latter fell to Rangana Herath.
Spinner Herath struck in the 11th over to end Sharma's challenge. Sharma drove Herath through covers but Senanayake took a stunner to send him back at the score of 64. He scored 29 off 26 balls and hit three boundaries during the process.
Earlier, pacer Angelo Mathews struck in the second over to bowl out opener Rahane (3) after Sri Lanka elected to bowl.
India who cruised to the summit clash without a single loss in the tournament will be eyeing their second title. No team has won the World Twenty20 title twice or by remaining unbeaten throughout a tournament.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be aiming for a perfect farewell for Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, who'll be playing their last T20 International, by clinching their maiden title.
