Bengaluru, Oct 6: Karnataka BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa, who is facing corruption charges, has accused the chief minister Siddaramaiah-led state government of misusing the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) to target those who speak against the ruling party.

Reacting to reports that the ACB was planning to raid the Income Tax department’s officials, Yeddyurappa said that the I-T sleuths need not worry as his party would bring the matter to the Centre’s notice. He described the ACB as “Siddaramaiah protection bureau”.

Siddaramaiah’s Cabinet colleagues, however, maintained that the ACB has not been misused.

Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that the Centre was misusing the I-T department, Enforcement Directorate and the CBI, and not the state government. He said that the government has never interfered in the ACB’s functioning.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra also said the ACB is functioning well within its jurisdiction.

Udupi, Jul 22: Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh on Wednesday announced lifting of ban on movement of people and vehicles with immediate effect in the borders of Kerala which was banned during lockdown.

The announcement comes hours after Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced that lockdown in Bengaluru and other parts of the state will not be extended any further, suggesting people should wear masks and maintain physical distancing strictly.

Mr Jagadeesh noted that although the seal down of the borders of the district would be lifted, checkposts on the border would be set up and urged people to enter the district only in case of emergency.

Udupi, Jun 4: Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakhar on Wednesday said that he will take up an issue before a high-powered committee on COVID-19 to find out the possibility of imposing lockdown on a particular house of the person infected with the virus instead of sealing down of entire areas.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday after reviewing the district's prevailing COVID situation, the minister said the concept and modalities of declaring any area as containment zone has undergone changes in the last two months.

"Hitherto, we were declaring the entire area as the containment zone after detection of coronavirus positive cases. Subsequently, the area of the containment zone was decreased from the whole area to a particular street," the Minister said.

"Now, BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat has given a suggestion to seal down a particular house of the positive patient which would be taken up before the high-powered panel. The district administration concerned could supply all essential items to the particular family," he said.

He further said that the Union government has been providing all facilities to all the states to deal with the situation."
