Kasaragod, Aug 18: The police here seized nearly 22 kg of ganja valued at Rs. 5 lakh and arrested its 30-year-old carrier, Abubacker Siddique, from Kunjathur, near Manjeswar, on Thursday.

Initially, the police team led by Kumbla Circle Inspector V.V. Manoj had seized 250 grams of ganja from Abubacker, who resides near Hosabettu beach.

Detailed interrogation of the youth led the police team to 10 boxes of ganja stocked at a rented accommodation at nearby Thuminadu on Thursday.

The man confessed that the drugs were transported from Visakhapatnam on a hired car from here, Mr. Rajesh said.

Mangaluru, July 14: Melkar  Women's PU college has achieved excellent pass percentage in II PUC examinations, the results of which were announced today.

As many as 140 students of the college had appeared for second PU board exam 2020 this year. The college secured 95% results in the current academic year.

Among them 24 students passed with distinction and 94 with with first class marks.

Fathima Nisha (558 in Arts),

Zaithunnisa (561 in commerce) and Zainaba ifrath (545 in science) are the toppers of respective sections in the college.

Belagavi, Jan 16: Six Poachers were arrested in two different cases at Gollahalli forest range in Kittur section in the district on Thursday.

The arrested were identified as Bharmesh alias Bharmappa Hanumant Bhajantri, Mallesh Hanumant Bhajantri residents of Budanakatti in Bailahongal Taluk.

Another alleged accused Yuvraj Basappa Bhajantri managed to escape.

Tumakuru, Jun 20: An SSLC student of Siddaganga Mutt here was admitted to the isolation ward of the district hospital on Saturday after he showed Covid-19 symptoms.

Health officials said that the student, a native of the Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, had returned to the Mutt via Raichur on June 15 for writing the SSLC examination scheduled to begin on June 25.

After he was admitted to the hospital the Health Department Officials kept three of his roommates under quarantine. Throat swab sample of the student has also been sent for testing.
