Bengaluru, Oct 31: Actor Arjun Sarja on Tuesday moved the Karnataka High Court alleging that the criminal case booked against him by actor Sruthi Hariharan is “false” with “a clear intention of trickery and as a measure of shielding counter attack to escape from legal actions initiated against her” by him.

The FIR was registered against Sarja, based on complaint lodged by Sruthi Hariharan on October 27, imputing offences under sections 354, 354A, 506 and 509 of IPC. The petition may come up for hearing in a day or two after scrutiny.

Seeking the quashing of the sexual harassment complaint, Sarja claimed that that he’s an innocent man who strove hard to stand out as a gentleman.

According to him, Vaidyanathan, director of the movie, Vismaya, in whose presence the alleged incident took place, and others who have been cited as witnesses in her complaint, had ruled out any impolite and lewd behaviour on his part.

There is a vast difference between Sruthi’s initial Facebook post and the complaint she lodged with police. The complaint contained additional details that are nothing but an afterthought to counter attack him, he alleged.

Sarja said discreet enquiries by him had revealed that Sruthi had hatched a conspiracy to gain publicity for multiple gains. He pointed out that Sruthi’s Facebook post was uploaded from a foreign country (US) though she was here. Also, his email IDs and social media accounts were closed and illegally tagged.

Sarja also claimed that Sruthi had praised his role as a hero, both during the release of the film and at related events. Now, after a gap of three years, Sruthi has come up with a complaint of perceived sexual harassment against him, which resulted in his character assassination and him being trolled, he stated.

New Delhi, Jan 5: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday sàid it was "shameful" that Sadaf Jafar, SR Darapuri and Pavan Rao were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police for violence without any evidence against them.

He also said that it was a shocking admission by the police that there is no evidence of their involvement.

"Sadaf Jafar, S R Darapuri and Pavan Rao Ambedkar released on bail after police ADMITTED no evidence of their involvement in violence. Shocking admission," he said on Twitter.

"If that were so, why did the police arrest them in the first place? And how did the Magistrate remand them to custody without looking at the evidence," he asked.
"The law says 'find evidence, then arrest'. The reality is 'first arrest, then search for evidence'. Shameful," Chidambaram tweeted.

Mar 7: Two Malayalam news channels, Asianet News and Media One, which were banned by the information and broadcasting ministry for their coverage of the recent violence in Delhi on Friday evening, were allowed to resume telecasting on Saturday morning.

While Asianet News appeared to have begun operations around 7am on Saturday, Media One was screening content by 9.30am.

The ministry of information and broadcasting had imposed a 48-hour ban on Asianet News and Media One for their coverage of the Delhi violence for 48 hours from 7.30pm on Friday. Both Asianet News and Media One were barred under Rule 6(1 c) and Rule 6(1e) of the Cable Television Networks Act, 1994.

The ministry of information and broadcasting alleged Asianet News and Media One were "biased" and critical of the RSS and Delhi Police.

The ban on Asianet News and Media One triggered a torrent of criticism of the move. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor asked how "Malayalam channels inflame communal passions in Delhi?" and alleged some English news channels were continuing "their brazen distortions" with impunity.

In a statement issued on Friday after the ban, Media One termed the move "unfortunate and condemnable" and called it a "blatant attack against free and fair reporting". Media One called it "an order to stop free and fair journalism".
