Baliga murder: Photographer Manujanth arrested for harbouring NaMo Naresh

Mangaluru, May 29: The Manglauru police have arrested another accused in connection with the cold blooded murder of an RTI activist, who had taken on a temple and builders. This is the fifth arrest in connection with the case.

1manjunath K Manujanth Shenoy, alias Manju Neereshwalya, (39) was arrested on Sunday on the charge of harbouring Naresh Shenoy, the prime accused in the same case. He is photographer by profession.

Naresh Shenoy, the founder of local unit of NaMo Brigade, has been absconding since the murder of 51-year-old RTI activist Vinayak Baliga.

In a press note, the police said that Manju Neereshwalya was in constant touch with Naresh Shenoy, whom the police wanted to question in connection with the murder.

The police said that Manju Neereshwalya was informing Naresh Shenoy of the developments in the case and helping him hide.

Vinayak Baliga was hacked to death near his house in Kodialbail on March 21. The police have arrested Vineet Poojary, Nishit Devadiga, Shiva, alias Shivaprasad, and Shailesh (40).

The police said that they are still looking for Naresh Shenoy.

Mangalore, Jan 16: Medical fraternity of the state are racing and thrilled to be participating in the upcoming Karnataka Medical Council election to be held on 23 Jan 2020 polling will be held at IMA House Mangalore by direct ballot.

The results will be announced on Jan 25, 2020.

This Election is a historic one since the inception of KMC, It is being conducted across the state by direct voting by all the registered MBBS doctors of the state for 12 seats numbering more than 65,000.

Karnataka Cong protests against govt over amendment to APMC Act

Bengaluru, May 20: Karnataka Congress leaders held a protest against the state government against amending of APMC Act, at the premises of Vidhan Soudha here.

Few days ago, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had said that the new amendment in the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Act will substantially aid the farmers in getting remunerative price for their produce.

"Amendment will not dilute the powers of the work of the APMCs. All these marketing activities will be monitored by the Directorate of State APMC. This new amendment Act will benefit farmers in improving their income & suffering from losses due to market fluctuations," the Karnataka CM tweeted.

Yediyurappa further said that the amendment will indirectly help farmers in doubling their income by 2022.

"This amendment will indirectly help farmers in doubling their income by 2022. I want to clarify that we have not removed the APMC Act, we are only amending 2 sections of the APMC Act which enable farmers to sell their produce at the markets where they intend to," he tweeted.

Here's the first phase flight plan for return of Indian nationals stranded abroad

Newsroom, May 5: Following the union government's nod, preparations are afoot to bring back Indian nationals stranded abroad from May 7 onwards.

According to sources, in the first phase from May 7- 14, the government would allow more than 60 “non-scheduled, commercial” flights to operate from about 12 countries to India to bring back 15,000 citizens. At least half of those flights will be from the Gulf region, including UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman, while the rest would bring passengers from the U.S., the U.K., Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Bangladesh.

The flights would be spread over 10 States identified as having the largest numbers to return, with Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Delhi (NCR) receiving the maximum number of flights.

A meeting held at the Ministry of Civil Aviation looked specifically at flights, mainly operated by Air India, while it awaits a final plan from countries where Indians need to be airlifted from. The first flights planned at present are from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh and Doha, flying directly to Kozhikode and Kochi.

While the full estimate of Indians needing to return home could cross ten lakhs (a million), with more than two lakhs having registered to return from the UAE alone, officials said their return would be “prioritised and staggered”.
