Baliga murder: Photographer Manujanth arrested for harbouring NaMo Naresh

Mangaluru, May 29: The Manglauru police have arrested another accused in connection with the cold blooded murder of an RTI activist, who had taken on a temple and builders. This is the fifth arrest in connection with the case.

1manjunathK Manujanth Shenoy, alias Manju Neereshwalya, (39) was arrested on Sunday on the charge of harbouring Naresh Shenoy, the prime accused in the same case. He is photographer by profession.

Naresh Shenoy, the founder of local unit of NaMo Brigade, has been absconding since the murder of 51-year-old RTI activist Vinayak Baliga.

In a press note, the police said that Manju Neereshwalya was in constant touch with Naresh Shenoy, whom the police wanted to question in connection with the murder.

The police said that Manju Neereshwalya was informing Naresh Shenoy of the developments in the case and helping him hide.

Vinayak Baliga was hacked to death near his house in Kodialbail on March 21. The police have arrested Vineet Poojary, Nishit Devadiga, Shiva, alias Shivaprasad, and Shailesh (40).

The police said that they are still looking for Naresh Shenoy.

Bagalkot, April 4: A COVID-19 positive patient passed away in Karnataka's Bagalkot on Friday, taking the total number of deaths in the state to four, informed the Deputy Commissioner of Bagalkot.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 2650 including 184 people who have been discharged or cured or migrated, and 68 deaths, as per the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Mangaluru, July 30: Medical doctor turned IAS officer K V Rajendra assumed charge as the 130th deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district here today.

The 2013 batch Karnataka cadre officer succeeds Sindhu B Rupesh, who was transferred as Director of Electronic Delivery of Citizen Services (EDCS), Bengaluru. The outgoing DC welcomed the new DC in the presence of staff. 

Dr Rajendra said that he expects cooperation from all stakeholders in administering the district, amidst the mounting Covid-19 cases.

Rajendra, an alumnus of JJM Medical College, Davanagere, was serving as the CEO of Belagavi zilla panchayat before being posted as DC of this coastal district. 

Having served as assistant commissioner of Puttur sub-division for nearly a year from December 2015, Dr Rajendra, hails from Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district, had his probationary training in Bidar. He posted as CEO of Ballari ZP where he worked for nearly three till 21, 2019.

He also had a brief stint as assistant secretary in the department of fertiliser with the ministry of chemicals and fertilisers.

Sindhu who was the CEO of Udupi zilla panchayat had succeeded Sasikanth Senthil, who resigned from the Indian Administrative Service on September 6, 2019. She had taken charge on September 7, 2019.

Mangaluru, Jan 9: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner has lodged a complaint with the Police alleging that his signature was forged in a holiday circular for schools and colleges in the district during National General Strike called by Trade Unions.

It may be recalled that the district administration had declared a holiday for all educational institutions on December 20 and 21 in the backdrop of the December 19 violence.

A few miscreants had forged this order and circulated it on social media stating that a holiday had been declared for schools and colleges in the district on January 8.
