BJP has no moral right to question Congress: Siddaramaiah

Bidar, Dec 14: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tore apart the principal Opposition BJP after launching the Nava Karnataka Nirmana Yatra, with much fanfare in Basavakalyan town on Wednesday.

"Starting from K C Reddy, several chief ministers have served the state. But, have you ever heard of a chief minister taking bribe through cheque, like Yeddyurappa did? He is the first chief minister who went to jail on charges of corruption," he said.

Besides Yeddyurappa, a host of BJP leaders like Janardhana Reddy, Hartal Halappa, Anand Singh and Katta Subramanya Naidu went to jail on various charges.

But the Congress-led government, in the last four years and seven months, gave corruption-free governance. The BJP has no moral right to question the ruling party. They do not even feel ashamed, while pointing fingers at the Congress, he said.

On Yeddyurappa's statement that Siddaramaiah did nothing in the last four years. The chief minister hit back, saying those who seek the votes in the name of Basavanna, did nothing for him.

Siddaramaiah said it was during his tenure as deputy chief minister that the Basavakalyan Development Authority was constituted and funds to the tune of Rs 5 crore were sanctioned. It was Congress government which sanctioned Rs 250 crore to develop Kudala Sangama as a major tourist attraction on the lines of Akshardham temple in Delhi, he asserted.

The chief minister said in the four-and-half years of his governance, the stress was on equal distribution of resources for the welfare of all sections of the society.

District incharge minister Eshwar Khandre, Water Resource Minister M B Patil, Urban Development Minister Roshan Baig, Social Welfare Minister Anjaneya and others were present on the occasion.

The chief minister launched a series of development works on the occasion.

Mangaluru, Jun 2: Even as the mosques in Karnataka recieved green signal from state government to reopen for congregational prayers from June 8, a senior Islamic scholar in coastal Karnataka has encouraged Muslims to prefer to offer prayers at homes during covid times. 

Twaqa Ahmed Al-Azhari, the Qadhi of Mangaluru, has welcomed the state government's decision to allow Muslims to offer congregational prayers including Jum'a prayers with certain precautions and conditions.

"Government has upheld our religions sentiments. All the mosques where congregational prayers will be held from June 8 should strictly follow all the guidelines issued by the government," he said. 

He also suggested that if any mosque is not in a position to follow all the guidelines issued by the government then it should refrain from holding congregational prayers. "Muslims can continue offer Fard and Jumá prayers at homes as the cornavirus pandemic is still spreading in the region and across the world," he said.

Bengaluru, Mar 29: Seven new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Karnataka since Saturday 5 pm to 2 pm on Sunday.

The total number of positive cases in the state stands at 83, out of which five have been cured/discharged and three have lost their lives, according to the Karnataka Health Department.

A total of 979 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.

Chikkamagaluru, June 6: The Chikkamagaluru district has become free from confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The last two of the 16 covid patients in the district were discharged today after they were treated and tested negative.

P 2765, a 28-year-old man and P 2766, a 38-year-old man were discharged, said Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautham. Nine others were discharged from hospital yesterday.

Till May 22, Chikkamagaluru district had not recorded any positive and had remained a green zone till then.

However, with the influx of stranded people from Maharashtra and Delhi, the district had registered 16 covid positive cases.

 “As on today, there are no active covid-19 cases in the district. However, we should be attentive and take all the precautionary measurers,” the DC said.

The officer has appealed to the public to maintain social distancing in public places and wear masks.
