BJP MP Pratap Simha among 100 detained for violating prohibitory orders

Mysuru, Dec 3: Pratap Simha, the Karnataka chief of BJP Yuva Morcha, who was asked by the party supremo Amit Shah to hold more and more anti-government protests in the state, on Saturday courted arrested along with around 100 saffron activists at Hunsur in Mysuru district for violating prohibitory orders.

The Mysuru district police has permitted the organisers of the Hanuma Jayanthi in Hunsur to take out its procession on a specified route, while imposing prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in the rest of the town.

Police said the gathering of Mr Simha, who is also the MP of Mysuru-Kodagu constituency, and his followers had violated the prohibitory orders, posing a threat to law and order in the communally sensitive town.

Heavy police security had been deployed in Hunsur since Saturday for the Meelad and Hanuma Jayanthi celebrations.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the town with supporters of Mr. Simha staging a protest demanding his release.

Bengaluru, Mar 5: Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal's wife Priya Bansal has filed a dowry harassment case against the entrepreneur at Kormangala police station in Bengaluru, sources said.

Priya alleged that ahead of their wedding, her father had spent Rs 50 lakh for the arrangements and given Rs 11 lakh in cash to Sachin instead of a car. Further, she has also alleged that Sachin has been pressurising her to transfer all the properties that were in her name to him. However, after refusing to do so her in-laws started harassing her.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Sachin and three others at Kormangala police station in Bengaluru.

The police are investigating the matter.

Udupi/Mangaluru, Apr 3: As many as 11 liquor addicts in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts have committed suicide, due to non-availability of liquor.

It is said that the District administration, in association with Psychiatrists, have taken the initiative to provide counselling services, along with telemedicine, to the addicts.

Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh said on Thursday that arrangements will be made to provide treatments and personal counselling for the liquor addicts.

Bengaluru, May 10: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday accused the state government of not preparing proper guidelines to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border areas.

"No proper guidelines have been given to officials to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. From the last 45 days, many of these people have not got any relief nor are there any proper directions or guidelines from the state government," alleged Kumaraswamy.

He also accused the state government of cheating the people of Karnataka.

"Karnataka government is cheating people the same way it cheated with the flood compensation. The state government had announced lakhs of rupees as compensation to those who lost houses in the flood last year. But nobody has got the records or details as to how many people got benefited from it," he added.
Fifty-three more COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka on Sunday, the state government said.

The total number of cases in the state is at 847, including 405 discharged and 31 deaths so far, the bulletin said.
